The post holder will be professionally responsible and accountable to the Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer

They will have strong working relationships with colleagues in the Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer function and across the health economy in London.

They will assist the CDAO when necessary and contribute to delivering the statutory function successfully.

They will contribute to the quality improvement and patient safety work through the CDAO and medication safety agendas.

As a Controlled Drugs Professional Manager the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the NHS England London Region to develop and deliver a coherent strategy of the Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer statutory function. The postholder will also support the regional medication safety officer (MSO) in their role of ensuring the development and support of the MSO network across the London region.

The post holder will be responsible for maintaining good working relationships
with a broad range of partners including health regulators, police forces, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and independent health providers.

The post will be responsible for the effective management of a portfolio of cases. Including the provision of advice and challenge to external investigators and NHS England colleagues.

The role supports the business in driving transformation as well as value for money in planning, commissioning and service. The role is designed to build a combination of subject matter expertise and technical skills to develop a strong service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Health care professional currently registered with an appropriate health care regulator.
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area

Knowledge and experience

  • Knowledge of the regulations and practice around the safe management and use of controlled drugs in at least one health care setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of specialist areas acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master’s level equivalent
