Job overview
The Programme Support Officer within the North West School of Foundation Training and Physicians Associates is a key member of the team whose overarching goal is to enable, promote and support the effective use of data, information, knowledge and technology to improve, inform and support a portfolio of projects, programmes, services and initiatives.
The core purpose of this team is to:
- Deliver Postgraduate Medical and Dental education.
- Assure and manage the quality and improvement of education and training, meeting regulator standards.
- Deliver statutory responsibilities defined by the Medical and Dental Act including acting as Responsible Officer for Doctors in Training.
- Provide clinical and professional leadership to education and training policy, regulations, standards, reform and delivery.
- Assure the quality and improvement of education and training.
- Focus on addressing the gaps in the workforce across medical roles, professions, healthcare pathways and geographies through education and training.
- Deliver and co-ordinate of nationwide commissioned, education and training programmes.
- Recruit, manage and distribute education and training that requires nationwide delivery, coordination and oversight.
- Maximise the use of digital, technology and innovation in the delivery of education and training.
- Work with organisations such as GMC, Royal Colleges, NHS Trusts, UKFPO and Lead Employer organisations to support the delivery of training and education.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will:
- Work as part of a team to co-ordinate and implement specific workstreams and team functions.
- Provide a comprehensive, senior administrative service
- Be a point of contact within a specified area to advise external stakeholders, doctors, learners and trainers.
- Have line manager responsibility for one or more members of the team
- Have a methodical approach, and a keen eye for detail to ensure records are kept up to date.
- Work independently within a defined function to achieve agreed outcomes
The postholder will work closely with clinical faculty, University colleagues, Business Managers, local education providers, Royal Colleges, and other external stakeholders to ensure the delivery of consistent services within Training Programme Management, as aligned to NHSE Standard Operating Procedures.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

- Excellent communication skills demonstrating experience of dealing with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experience of taking detailed information from a number of sources and provide analysis for projects / reports.

- Educated to degree level or equivalent level of knowledge / experience.
- Good understanding of a range of work procedures and practices which require a level of expertise or specialism obtained e.g. project management, analytics, finance and accounting processes, high level admin procedures, HR.
