Job overview

The GP PCME is responsible for delivery of quality assured education at Programme and Postgraduate School of General Practice levels.

The education will be group based and will be mapped against the curriculum and the needs of the learners.

The postholder will work with the Training Programme Director and other lead educators across the Programme to ensure that each learning experience meets the NHSE standards for training. 

The successful candidate will ensure that the organisation of the group learning will be flexible enough to meet the requirements of the learners in their different stages of development and settings.

The post holder is expected to be on the GMC GP Register with a minimum of one year’s experience in general practice post-CCT.

Please note that this is for the St Helens & Knowsley patch.

Main duties of the job

      To work and function as a member of the local educator team

 

·       To balance areas of activity and work with other members of the Programme educator team to ensure a co-ordinated Programme

 

·       To facilitate the educational development of Trainers and other PCMEs in the peer group

 

·       To attend Programme and Academy meetings when requested

 

·       Liaison with the educational supervisors in the Programme

 

To liaise with Foundation Programme Directors and GP Tutors to ensure continuity in the ‘lifelong curriculum’

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·       To contribute to the recruitment process when requested

·       To contribute to GPST induction processes

·       To contribute to the re-accreditation of Trainers and training practices

·       To contribute to the quality assurance processes in assessment

·       To ensure that activities comply with local and national guidance e.g. equality and diversity legislation

·       To ensure that accurate information about the GP Programme and it’s content can be made available to learners

·       To support the identification and development of educational supervisors

·       To identify appropriate educational resources to ensure successful delivery of the GP Programme

·       To work with other disciplines in the development of multidisciplinary learning relevant to Primary Care.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Primary medical degree
  • On GMC GP Register with a minimum of one year’s post-CCT experience in the specialty
  • Current licence to practice and fully engaged in annual appraisal and revalidation
  • Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty, professional association and/or regulatory body
  • Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development (example: educator courses, Train the Trainer, etc.)
  • On Medical performers list and be actively engaged in GP clinical practice
Desirable criteria
  • On GMC register of approved GP trainers or clinical supervisor
  • Educational qualification eg Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, Masters in Medical Edcuation or equivalent such as Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context
  • Experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi-professional team
  • Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education
  • Understanding of developments involving the relevant Colleges/Faculties, professional bodies, related NHS organisations and regulatory bodies
  • Understanding of the workforce transformation agenda
  • Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and equality and diversity trained in last 3 years
  • Active involvement in, and up to date with, appraisal processes
  • Knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes, including an understanding of healthcare/multi-professional workforce matters, the Gold Guide and educational theory
Desirable criteria
  • Previous or current appointment as a Leader in Healthcare Education
  • Awareness of funding streams for Healthcare Education
  • Understanding of current health, social care and education policy
