This role will require availability to work Wednesday with some flexibility around work on other days also required. 

This role is a 3 session post and would be a leadership role with specific responsibilities for delivering and supporting our SW faculty to meet the Assessment requirements for GP DiTs. The role is pan-Southwest and will involve working with other regional leads and external stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of assessment and best practice are applied. 

The role will involve delivery and oversight of projects and workstreams toThe role requires a strong commitment to fostering excellence and innovation.

Key activities within this role include: 

·       Operational leadership of the ARCP process for GP specialty training, including the requirements of revalidation.

  • Provide Leadership for ARCP panels including  preparation, chairing, post panel advice, being a point of escalation for complex queries relating to assessment outcomes, educational plans and lead on management of appeals.
  •           Provide guidance support and develop training resources for faculty members involved in assessment activities, including training on assessment principles, and best practice. 
  •        To take part in meetings of the GP School as appropriate,  RCGP national meetings, attend faculty conferences, trainers’ groups and other training events and deliver presentations and workshops to disseminate knowledge and skills 
  • Monitor and analyse assessment data, identify trends, assess programme effectiveness, and inform continuous improvement initiatives. P
  • Serve as a key advocate for excellence in GP assessment within the SW SoPC . Provide leadership in a promoting a culture of continuous improvement. 
  • Network with other deanery assessment leads through the national deanery assessment reference group forum (DARG) to incorporate and spread best practice.
  • To be involved in the development and assessment of innovative and non-standard training programmes, eg combined training, ACF, dual CCT

As an Associate Dean you will be part of the extended Senior educator team supporting delivery of both central and local ARCP panels.  

You will work closely with the Primary Care Dean, Head of Schools other Associate Deans, Training Programme Directors, central and patch administration teams, SPEX team and the RCGP.  

The role is pan Southwest and will involve working with other regional leads and external stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of assessment and best practice are applied. 

The role will involve delivery and oversight of projects and workstreams to support assessment and outcomes for doctors in training and educators, including developing resources and education, supporting exam support strategy, and being an escalation point for complex queries.

  • Experience of leadership within healthcare / medical education
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret assessment data, identify trends, and make evidence-based decisions.

  • Knowledge of RCGP curriculum and assessment requirements
  • Knowledge of Gold Guide
  • Understanding and experience of addressing issues related to ED&I and DA.

Qualifications and Training

  • Registered General Practitioner with a current licence to practise Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty or professional association
  • Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development ( train the trainer etc)
  • Active involvement in, and up to date with, NHS appraisal processes

  • Higher educational qualification such as a postgraduate certificate, diploma etc in education / or management
