Senior Quality Governance Lead

Job overview

The post holder will work with the Associate Director of Quality, the Head of Quality Improvement and Learning and our Patient Safety Specialist to drive the embedding of the Trusts strategies for quality improvement, governance and assurance. This will ensure that quality of care is seen as the responsibility of all staff within the organisation on our journey to be an outstanding provider of health care.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead and manage our Quality Governance Team.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and embedding a robust strategy for clinical governance, patient safety and quality assurance, which ensures that governance, quality and safety are seen as the responsibility of all staff, supported by an appropriately skilled and responsive governance team. They will assist the Associate Director of Quality to establish, manage and maintain procedures for robust clinical governance of the Trust providing high level assurance to the Trust Board and Executive Team to ensure regulatory compliance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are seeking someone who has excellent communication skills, experience in governance and assurance and, adept at identifying learning from patient safety incidents. 

This post is open to clinical and non-clinical staff.  As part of the Quality Team the role will include strong and visible leadership to the Trust across the whole quality, risk and patient safety agenda, including the provision of expert governance knowledge in an acute hospital setting and will take part in the Trust Wide On Call rota.

The post holder will lead on the Trust's approach to quality governance, to ensure its governance arrangements are robust and meet the requirements set by our regulatory bodies and commissioners. As such the post holder will support the Trust’s ambition of being and outstanding provider of health care.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a senior governance or safety/risk related role.
  • Proven ability to develop and communicate a long-term vision for patient safety and convert that into plans, objectives and deliverables for the organisation.
  • Demonstrable evidence of developing and leading change management processes for the benefit of patients and service users.
  • Success in working collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams and services.
  • Experience of leading / working in a patient safety role ( Governance in an acute NHS Trust)
  • Have previous experience / responsibility for clinical governance systems (NHS governance)
  • Significant demonstrable knowledge of local and national patient safety policy and strategy
  • Lead and manage multiple teams
Desirable criteria
  • Significant demonstrable experience in senior management in healthcare ( to include acute care)
  • Significant experience of working in a clinical operational role in the NHS.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Development of committees & groups involving multi-professional relationships
  • Demonstrable understanding of NHS governance and risk frameworks and requirements
  • Demonstrable understanding of the NHS regulatory and Assurance frameworks under which NHS Foundation Trusts operate
  • Working knowledge of national policy and ability to research good practice solutions to its implementation
Desirable criteria
  • Organisation of Risk Management and corporate governance in a large acute trust setting
  • A sound knowledge of the Health Service and the way in which the Clinical and non-clinical professions interact

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current Professional Registration e.g. RN, RMN etc
  • Health related degree
  • Educated to Masters Level in a related subject or equivalent experience working at a senior level
  • Evidence of continuous professional and personal development
Desirable criteria
  • Business/Project Management qualification, or/and significant demonstrable experience in an acute care environment
