The NHS England – Midlands, People Talent and Culture team are seeking a Equality Diversity and Inclusion Deputy Manager to join our regional team working across the whole of the Midlands region. We are looking for a supportive, resilient and confident colleague who will work flexibly in a matrix structure and enjoys contributing to different project work.

 

The purpose of the People, Talent, and Culture sub-directorate is:

·    To deliver on the People Promise and the cultural elements that ensure best practice across the ICBs and addresses the multiple factors that lead reactively and proactively to organisations in SOF

·    To lead the talent management and leadership development strategy for the region.

·       To ensure that EDI is embedded across the ICBs in all they do and to act as a centre of excellence for best practice in all cultural elements. 

 

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the Directorate to work on the development of transformational policy for Equality and Health Inequalities.

Main duties of the job

The role supports the Equality Diversity and Inclusion workstream in the People Talent and Culture team in driving transformation. The role is designed to build a combination of subject matter expertise and technical skills to develop a strong service delivery.  Assistant Director of EDI and their team to ensure that their work stream of programmes is planned and managed effectively and take the lead in assisting in their successful delivery:

·    Liaise with appropriate functions within the regions, organisation, and the Sector. Manage and overall coordination of leader development interventions across the region.

·       Oversight and management of all aspects of the team projects.

·   The postholder will champion equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and be proactive as a member of the team and as a line manager (if applicable) in the promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion to ensure that EDI is embedded into their working culture, behaviour, values and practice.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In particular, but not limited to, the post holder will:

  • Support the team in monitoring and analyse provider service performance data for equality and health inequalities making recommendations for improvements.
  • Be able to make judgments on complex equality data and present the information to a range of audiences in an accessible format ensuring that the key messages are understood by the target audience.
  • Support the team to ensure that their work stream of programmes is planned and managed effectively and take the lead in assisting in their successful delivery:
  • Be required to maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Participate in relevant working groups/projects, services, and initiatives to provide, information and analytical advice and expertise.
  • Present information and issues, explaining highly complex issues, to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • To act as a champion for patients and their interests and involve the public and patients in the policy development and decision-making of NHS England.
  • To ensure all public and patient contact with the office is of the highest professional standard.
  • To embed patient and public involvement within NHS England at all levels of decision making.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Post-graduate degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level qualification or significant experience of working at a similar level in specialist area
  • Further training or significant experience in project management, financial management or supporting change management processes

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable specialist knowledge in a relevant discipline
  • Significant experience of successfully operating in a politically sensitive environment
  • Demonstrated experience of co-ordinating projects in complex and challenging environments.
  • Monitor and analyse provider service performance data for equality and health inequalities making recommendations for improvements
  • Make judgments on complex equality data and present the information to a range of audiences in an accessible format ensuring that the key messages are understood by the target audience
Desirable criteria
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project principles, techniques, and tools, such as Prince 2 Foundation and Microsoft Project

  • Clear communicator with excellent written and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately to a diverse and varied range of audiences consisting of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to prepare and produce concise yet insightful communications for dissemination to senior stakeholders and a broad range of stakeholders as required
  • Demonstrated capability to act upon incomplete information, using experience to make inferences and decision making
  • Demonstrated capabilities to manage own workload and make informed decisions in the absence of required information, working to tight and often changing timescales
