Occupational Therapy Clinical Support Worker

Maple Ward at Meadowfield Hospital in Worthing are looking for an Occupational Therapy Clinical Support Worker Band 3 to join the Multi-disciplinary team on Maple Ward for Adults experiencing functional mental health difficulties.

The Occupational Therapy Clinical Support Worker role is for 22.5 hours per week, with the possibility of this expanding to 37.5 hours per week, for 11 months on a Fixed Term Contract or Secondment

Main duties of the job

The Occupational Therapy Clinical Support Worker role includes facilitation of occupational assessments and interventions on a one to one basis, for example Cooking skills sessions, identifying meaningful activities and planning purposeful routines and occupational interventions in groups, for example Cooking, Relaxation, Creative, Healthy Lifestyles, to meet Patients’ occupational performance / recovery needs as identified by the Occupational Therapist.

Examples include:

  • Regaining / maintaining / developing Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills which can decrease during a hospital admission.
  • Facilitating Patients to re-engage / maintain interests and activities in relation to their recovery.
  • Facilitating engagement in identified purposeful roles.
  • Facilitating Patients to achieve occupational goals they have identified.
  • Facilitating Patients’ integration into the community.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

It is important that you have good communication skills both verbal and written skills for liaison with service users, their families, colleagues and other agencies.

General computer and administration skills are also required to support the running of the service.

Ability to network with other community services is essential in assisting service user's smooth integration into the community, for example, accessing community resources.

You would be part of a supportive and friendly Multi-disciplinary team with opportunities to work in collaboration with colleagues including: Occupational Therapist, Activity Worker, Nurses, Doctors, Social Workers, Psychologist, Discharge Support Worker and community practitioners to support Patients in their recovery.

Your skills will be developed through Clinical Supervision, Management Supervision and Training opportunities.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A recognised qualification in an area related to the workplace or equivalent technical/life skills
  • Evidence of a commitment to lifelong learning
  • Health care or relevant NVQ level 3 or equivalent skills

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs in a paid or voluntary capacity
  • Experience of working with people with mental health difficulties
  • Experience running groups/activities
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • Experience of being supervised
