Trosolwg o'r swydd

This is an exciting opportunity for Band 5 Senior Assistant Psychologist to join the new Single Point of Access in West Sussex.

The SPOA is designed for children, young people, their families, carers and relevant professionals to ensure that they can access the most appropriate emotional wellbeing, mental health support and intervention which meets their needs at the earliest possible stage and with the minimum delay.

The SPOA aims:

  • An integrated aligned and co-ordinated service is in place
  • More CYP have access to appropriate mental health services first time
  • More CYP have positive experiences of care and support
  • Time taken to receive treatment and support is reduced
  • Improved data collection and evaluation of CYP’s outcomes

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

This is a new and exciting post to work alongside SPoA clinicians to agree on the most appropriate care pathways for children and young people referred into SPoA.  

This involves working in partnership with children, young people and their families and the wider professional networks to gather more information in order to make informed decisions on the most appropriate care pathways. 

To participate in case discussions and to develop an understanding of available services and evidence based therapeutic intervention to inform decision making of the most appropriate service to signpost too.

We provide mental health and learning disability care for children, young people and adults across Sussex and for children and young people in Hampshire.

Working in Sussex:

REQUIREMENTS:

In order to be a successful Senior Assistant Psychologist in our team you will have:

  • A 2:1 degree or above (or equivalent) in a Psychology related topic
  • Excellent IT, audit and evaluation skills
  • A passion for working within a specialist eating disorders service

It would also be advantageous if you:

  • Are experienced working in CAMHS (Children and Young People’s mental health services)

Flexibility with working patterns is desirable as we may extend the hours of our service to include some weekend and evening work

SPFT staff have the capacity to work from home remotely where applicable and in agreement with your line manager.

  • Honours degree at 2:1 or above in Psychology, or equivalent. Eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartership with the BPS

Knowledge/Experience

  • Experience of working with people with complex needs
  • Experience of working with people with disabilities, in a health or Mental Health setting and or work with people with complex needs
  • Relevant clinical and research skills
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Basic knowledge of databases, research skills and methodology
  • Experience of group work and individual therapeutic contact
  • Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a health context
  • An understanding of psychology applied to health care

  • To be able to communicate effectively under pressure and maintain a high degree of professionalism at all times
  • To be able to provide and receive complex sensitive or contentious information in a potentially highly emotive atmosphere. To be able to work with resistance to ideas.
  • High standard of report writing
  • To assimilate complex information and use reflective/analytic thinking, to apply psychological perspectives in work with clients
  • Ability to be flexible and cope with multiple demands
  • Capable of using initiative and organise work to agreed goals. Ability to work independently and know when to ask for and use supervision, identifying when there is need for advice and using supervision at agreed intervals
  • Information technology skills. To have highly developed IT skills and good working knowledge of statistical packages
  • Requires manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination to administer neuropsychological tests and use computer key boards
  • Able to carry out PMVA interventions

Abilities

  • Need to maintain frequent high levels of concentration for long periods in sessions with clients or while conducting neuropsychological testing.
  • Ability to tolerate and remain calm in the face of high levels of emotional distress and emotional demands
  • Ability to tolerate occasional exposure to verbal abuse and hostility
  • Ability to use a PC
  • To sit in sessions with clients for extended periods of time in constrained positions for client therapy and interview sessions
