Job overview

An opportunity has arisen in North West Sussex CAMHS for a Senior Nurse specialist to cover maternity leave from November 2024.  The post is full-time and involves providing quality assessment and treatment and care coordination for children experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties.  The post holder will take a lead role in supervising junior nursing staff and in the development and delivery of our new Early Steps interventions.

Main duties of the job

To provide assessment and intervention to children experiencing mental health difficulties.

Risk assessment and safety planning

Work within  multidisciplinary networks to develop plans to meet the needs of children with  complex needs

Provide supervision to junior nurses

There will be occasions when you will be asked to deputise for your line managers at senior meetings and forums.

The North West Sussex CAMHS Team is based in Horsham and serves the Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex regions.  The team is comprised of a generous mix of professional disciplines including nurses, social workers, psychotherapists, family therapists, psychiatrists and psychologists.  The team works closely together to ensure the care that is delivered benefits from the multidisciplinary approaches.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current registration (mental health / LD/ Adult) appropriate to the job role
  • Degree/diploma level supplemented by specialist qualification, training, experience, courses to masters level equivalent relevant to the care group
  • Evidence of post registration training in relevant service area
  • Completion of Mentorship Course/ENB equivalent

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post qualifying experience in relevant service area
  • Experience of supervising staff and students
  • Able to manage a caseload of patients with complex mental health needs
  • Comprehensive knowledge of interventions specific to service area
  • Awareness of Trust policies and service specification
