Job overview

Working within a Mental Health Hospital setting. To provide the highest possible standards of domestic services, food service, hygiene and safety to service users without constant supervision, and be able to work as part of a team.

To observe current Health & Safety Regulations, and strictly adhere to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Policy, Infection Control Policy and Waste Disposal Policy. 

Main duties of the job

General Cleaning:

Clean areas specified, including associated fittings, if appropriate to include cupboards, work surfaces, dining tables etc.

Move light equipment, e.g. tables, chairs and couches (if on castors) to facilitate cleaning, taking into consideration manual handling risks at all times.

Clean high level surfaces as appropriate, e.g. ledges, pipes, wardrobes, lights, picture rails etc. and damp dust all furniture fixtures, fittings and ledges etc.

Clean paintwork, walls, doors etc. and internal glass as defined in work schedule.

Clean toilets, showers and hand basins; wall coverings and mirrors

General floor cleaning, to include shampooing/buffing when required.

Catering:

Loading Burlodge trolley with patient food and setting oven

Unloading and preparing for service to patients and recording food safety information using established systems

Clearing away after meals, temperature testing, informing kitchen of shortages or wastage

 

Working for our organisation

Our mental health services provide care and treatment for people with conditions such as psychosis, depression, anxiety, dementia and personality disorder. Our specialist learning disability services provide community and inpatient care for people with complex health needs which can’t be met by other services. We have a number of services that provide very specialist care for people with complex health conditions and social care needs.

 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

General Cleaning:

Clean areas specified, including associated fittings, if appropriate to include cupboards, work surfaces, dining tables etc.

Move light equipment, e.g. tables, chairs, beds and couches (if on castors) to facilitate cleaning, taking into consideration manual handling risks at all times.

Clean high level surfaces as appropriate, e.g. ledges, pipes, wardrobes, lights, picture rails etc. and damp dust all furniture fixtures, fittings and ledges etc.

Clean paintwork, walls, doors etc. and internal glass as defined in work schedule.

Clean toilets, showers and hand basins; wall coverings and mirrors

General floor cleaning, to include shampooing/buffing when required.

Remove and dispose of rubbish, ready for collection.

Maintain all equipment in a clean condition, reporting any malfunctioning or broken equipment as appropriate

Replenish stock where appropriate, e.g. disposal bags, soap, paper hand towels, toilet rolls and nursing rolls.

Catering:

Loading Burlodge trolley with patient food and setting oven.

Unloading and preparing for service to patients

Clearing away after meals, temperature testing, informing Supervisor of shortages or wastage

Remove and dispose of rubbish, ready for collection.

General Duties

 Inform the Supervisor of any maintenance work required or any defects to equipment

Ensure that stock levels are maintained at all times by timely submission of requisitions to Supervisors

Undertake any other duties as may be required by line management internal job rotation and absence cover.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • General education to GCSE level or equivalent - Maths and English
Desirable criteria
  • able to communicate effectively

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Has worked in a customer focused environment
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Previous experience of cleaning equipment
Desirable criteria
  • lived experience of Mental Health / NHS work experience

Physical

  • Able to safely undertake manual handling requirements
