Deputy Head of Infection Prevention and Control

Job overview
The post holder will ensure compliance with the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act 2008, Standards for Better Health and other Department of Health initiatives, ensuring ownership of compliance with Infection Prevention and Control by clinical service leads, in line with ‘Board to Ward’. To ensure the development of improved performance and service delivery across SECAmb.
The successful post holder will be responsible with providing advice, support and training as appropriate to all directly employed members of staff within SECAmb (including volunteers, bank and agency workers) including the management of outbreaks of infection and incidents as they occur.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will:
- Demonstrate expert practice and maintain competence by keeping
abreast of current research and innovation within Infection Prevention and Control - Support IPC research opportunities and the delivery of a robust IPC
education programme for all Trust staff both clinical and non-clinical - Regularly perform Risk Assessments, Root Cause Analysis or Post Infection Reviews (both internal and external), which will
inform the team’s service objectives, and research and education strategy - Collaborating with the HIPC and other stakeholders, will identify themes and trends from incidents, performance metrics, infection rates and Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) investigations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The team:
Effective infection prevention and control practice requires ownership at
every level – from Board to Frontline. Success depends on creating a
managed environment that minimises the risk of infection to patients, staff
and the public and ensures compliance with relevant national and local
standards, guidance and policies. A sustained approach to IPC can be
achieved through personal accountability, skilled and competent staff,
transparent and integrated working practices and clear management
processes

Knowledge
Essential criteria
- IPC degree level
- Experience of working in an IPC Team
- At least five years clinical experience
Desirable criteria
- Working knowledge of the Trust’s various communication tools.
- Experience in implementing change management.
Experiance
Essential criteria
- Has worked at Band 7 for 3 years in Infection Prevention and Control or Public Health
