Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Thoracic Imaging
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Job overview
Applicants are invited for a Consultant Radiologist post with a specialist interest in Thoracic Imaging. The successful candidate will have dedicated sub-specialist training in Thoracic Imaging and form part of an expanding team of Consultant Radiologists working in a regional teaching hospital. If a candidate has another specialty interest in addition to Thoracic Imaging that they would like to develop, we would be happy to discuss further.
There will be an opportunity to take part in the loco-regional lung cancer/ lung nodule MDM, interstitial lung disease MDM (including regular joint meetings with colleagues at the Royal Brompton Hospital), Complex Lung Infections MDM and Lung Cancer Screening Review meetings. Lung Cancer Screening (TLHC) started in Brighton in July 2022 and was rolled out to Hastings from April 2024. The Brighton Thoracic Radiology department runs the service for the whole of Sussex.
The successful candidate will have good cross-sectional skills in body and emergency imaging with an expectation to join the adult body imaging diagnostic on call rota (there are separate rotas for Interventional, Paediatric and Neuroradiology). The post sits within a Teaching hospital and the post-holder will be expected to get involved in clinical teaching and educational supervision. Opportunities for under and post-graduate teaching are available through our collaboration with Brighton and Sussex Medical School, and research and management are encouraged.
Main duties of the job
The clinical duties of the post include the following:
• General elective and acute (hot) reporting
• General ultrasound list
• Sub-speciality chest reporting
• Lung biopsies
• Supervision of radiology trainees
• Participation in MDMs
• Participation in Body Imaging on-call service
Teaching and training are an integral part with rotating radiology trainees and subspecialty training. Participation in teaching for the radiology Master’s program (MSc) conducted at the medical school is also encouraged.
