Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed doctor to join the HIV/Sexual Health & Contraception team in Brighton – the first UK fast track city. This is a full-time post for 6 months from August 2024.

This post is based at The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, part of University Hospitals Sussex. The post holder will be expected to staff Sexual Health & Contraception outpatient clinics, provide medical care to inpatients in The Sussex Beacon, and dependent on experience staff HIV emergency clinics and provide care to HIV inpatients.  The HIV/Sexual Health department currently has a cohort of over 2,400 patients with HIV and sees approximately 34,000 attendances in the fully integrated Sexual Health service per year and is a major centre for clinical research in HIV and Sexual Health. HIV inpatients are cared for in the new Louisa Martindale wing of the hospital and the Sussex Beacon has a 10 bedded inpatient unit serving patients living with HIV in B&H, East & west Sussex. This is an ideal opportunity to gain experience in this dynamic specialty.

Main duties of the job

The post, based in the SHAC/HIV department at The Royal Sussex County Hospital and Morley St clinic, offers flexibility and diversity. Responsibilities include staffing Sexual Health and Contraception clinics at both sites, alongside potential duties at The Sussex Beacon and the HIV inpatient ward. The role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and supporting various clinics catering to different patient needs. New staff receive thorough induction and mentorship, ensuring support throughout. Educational opportunities include weekly dedicated sessions for training and development.
