Job overview

We are seeking a neurodivergent peer support specialist to join our Transforming Care Autism Team (TCAT). The team's criteria is avoid admissions to mental health inpatient settings and support  discharges for autistic people.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will support others who are overcoming mental health challenges in their journey to recovery and wellbeing

The post holder will plan, promote and deliver delegated activities in accordance with the service user’s needs to meet goals identified in the individual’s Recovery Plan

Working for our organisation

We are adding peer-led specialist post-diagnostic support to our multi-disciplinary offer. 

The team will work with individuals, their families, carers, other SPFT teams and agencies across East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton and Hove. The successful candidate will have a passion for improving the lives of this client group.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful post holder will have at least 2 years experience in peer support work with neurodivergent individuals and an understanding of the experience of an inpatient admission for neurodivergent people.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Health care or relevant NVQ Level 3 or equivalent skills acquired through experience or formal teaching qualification
  • A recognised Peer Support qualification
  • Evidence of a commitment to lifelong learning

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of working with people with mental health needs in a paid or voluntary capacity in health/social care/teaching setting
  • Experience of working with people with mental health difficulties
  • Experience of working with groups/activities
  • Experience of supervising others
  • Lived experience of mental health issues/difficulties
  • Managing personal mental health and recovery
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Peer Support, Recovery and Wellbeing in mental health and ability to apply this throughout your work
  • Experience of working as part of a team
