REQUIREMENTS

In order to be a successful Systemic Psychotherapist in our team, you will have:

Recognised accredited post graduate level training in family & systemic psychotherapy
Professional registration as a Systemic Psychotherapist with the UKCP
Experience of providing a systemic psychotherapy service to adult clients and their families/networks, or enthusiasm for developing these skills, and experience of providing systemic supervision to practitioners offering systemic interventions

Brighton Psychological Practitioners are valued members of the service and offer specialist assessments and interventions, psychological formulation and team consultation. The psychological professions workforce in ATS has expertise in a wide range of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Mentalisation Based Therapy, EMDR and systemic family therapy.

You will be creative and flexible in adapting to change and able to educate and inspire others in working with people with complex mental health problems.

Substantial post-qualification/accreditation experience of systemic psychotherapy (assessment, formulation and treatment), as specified in the Appendix, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
A high level of competence in applying a psychological therapy to complex difficulties appropriate for this therapy with the client group served by the post, and a proven track record of delivering positive outcomes in this therapy
Experience of offering teaching, training and supervision within a demanding organisational context.
Experience of representing psychological therapy within the context of multi-disciplinary care within a complex organisational context.
Significant experience of working with the particular client group served by the team/service
Knowledge of guidance and legislation in relation to the client group.
A high level specialist knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist systemic psychotherapy therapy as specified in the appendix, as applied to the client group using this service.
Experience of the application of systemic psychotherapy in different cultural contexts and experience of working within a multicultural framework.
Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the professional registration/accrediting body specified in the appendix.

Background

Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia: a progressive and complex condition that can be devastating for the whole family. One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime – either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves, or both.

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nursing charity that is there for the whole family. Our specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. Every day, Admiral Nurses help families up and down the country to have the best life possible, for as long as possible.

Purpose of the job/about the role

Dementia UK has entered into an exciting three-year corporate partnership with a national partner. As a key component of this initiative, we will establish face-to-face Admiral Nurse clinics across the UK. This new team will bring Admiral Nursing to high street locations across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

As part of the national Clinics Programme Team, you will provide in-person biopsychosocial support and advice, sharing your specialist dementia nursing expertise to help families manage the complexities of the condition. Your focus will be on supporting family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist dementia guidance in areas of the UK where Admiral Nurse services are currently unavailable, bringing a much-needed service directly to local communities. Throughout your work, you will consistently promote Admiral Nursing and a family-centred approach to dementia care.

You will receive full support with your continuous professional development from the Admiral Nurse Academy.

As this unique nursing role offers you the opportunity to travel across the country, and will include overnight stays, flexibility is essential. When not delivering face-to-face clinics, you will provide support on our Helpline, working from home.

Admiral Nurse – Delivered Services

Join our Delivered Services team as an Admiral Nurse and bring your specialist dementia nursing expertise to support family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist advice. You’ll be a key member of our team, providing biopsychosocial support through our National Dementia Helpline and Virtual Clinic appointments.

In addition to your core responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and support other clinical projects across the charity, benefit from monthly clinical supervision, and participate in a range of learning opportunities to support your ongoing professional development.

As an Admiral Nurse, you’ll be responsible for providing nursing support and expertise, offering practical guidance to colleagues, the general public, those with dementia, and others in supporting family and relationship-centered approaches to dementia care. You’ll also lead and coordinate shifts as required, providing clinical supervision to others and assist with the development, evaluation, audit of the service, carer and supporters in different settings.

To be successful in this position, you’ll need to be an active Registered Nurse on the NMC register with a post-registration qualification or training in dementia care or a relevant subject. You will have significant experience of practicing as an Admiral Nurse or dementia specialist nurse and previously worked with people who have dementia and their family, carer and supporters in different settings.

Strong communication skills are essential, as is a proven track record of providing high standards of clinical leadership and specialist nursing support. You should be adept at providing clinical advice, clinical supervision, and advocating for family carers.
