Probationary Period

All new staff to the Trust will be subject to a standard 6 month probationary period, the details of which will duly follow in your contract of employment.

Agile and Flexible Working

All our staff will have a work base. However the Trust operates as an Agile Working Team therefore staff may be working from home on a regular basis as required by the service. However, occasionally travel around Warwickshire and into your base will be required so access to your own transport would be helpful.

Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic physiotherapist to co-ordinate the delivery of personalised, clinically specialist pelvic health physiotherapy services for patients with complex needs across Coventry & Warwickshire Local Maternity & Neonatal System (LMNS). The physiotherapy lead will work closely, and across organisational boundaries, with health, social care and voluntary sectors and partners to achieve best clinical outcomes and recovery for patients.

An ability to analyse and respond to performance targets and to be able to provide specialist knowledge/advice to other practitioners and the Multidisciplinary team is paramount.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To lead on developing and implementing appropriate pathways relating to
pelvic health services, making use, wherever possible, of technological
options to maximise efficiency and safety

To work closely with system partners to ensure effective patient flow along
the Pelvic Health pathways and implementation of the LMNS project

To ensure patients receive a holistic assessment of their needs and take a
lead role in co-ordinating their access to relevant services no matter where
their point of entry is into SWUFT or partner organisations

To take a lead role in monitoring and co-ordinating patients throughout their journey, using IT systems and leading on a weekly, virtual MSRT (MultiSpeciality Rehabilitation Team) meeting involving all relevant partners across the wider system

To take the lead role in developing and co-ordinating an appropriate followup service, working closely with partner organisations across the system

To support the Physiotherapy Outpatient Pathway Lead in delivering a high
quality, cost effective, high performing patient focused service, with
effective demand management systems which are responsive to the
changing national and local picture of pelvic health.

To contribute towards the development and implementation of SWUFT’s
strategic direction, clinical strategy, the professional workforce
development and overall objectives for SWUFT.

To assist the Service Manager and System Partners to plan and implement
improvement and innovations within the service in line with LMNS project
delivery as well as local and/or National commissioning requirements 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Delivery

To work autonomously using expert knowledge, experience and discretion
in delivering high quality services which meet the national guidance and
legislation, commissioning and SWUFT’s requirements and the health
needs of the population of the county

To work autonomously to interpret national, regional and local health and
social care strategies, policies and guidance in order to apply them into
service delivery

Work with partner organisations to ensure the service is provided is
effective and efficient, and reduces delayed transfers of care

To establish and interpret a database of outcome measures to inform the 
evaluation of the service

To ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard

To work within own regulatory body’s Code of Professional Conduct and 
SWUFT policies and procedural documents

To be responsible for maintaining own personal development through 
participation in SWUFT appraisal and personal development system and to
reflect on own performance through supervision, coaching and/or
mentoring

To ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard
and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work

To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to        
relatives, carers and other professionals, to promote understanding of the
aims of rehabilitation and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care 

Patient and Client Care

To provide leadership, advice and direction relating to service area patient
care and service delivery to staff within the virtual team

To be responsible for an allocated complex caseload and provide advanced 
clinical assessment, diagnosis, clinical reasoning, analysis and goal –
orientated rehabilitation programme as appropriate to the clinical
background of the post holder

To ensure that quality improvement systems and reporting mechanisms are
developed, and in place, to assure safe and effective patient care and a
positive patient experience

To ensure the full participation of service users and carers as part of the
 Trusts’ policies in relation to participation in all aspects of service delivery
of client services, by taking into account information gathered through a
variety of client interventions and interactions such as user surveys, local
patient forums and other activities that engage and involve users in the
development of services

Promote a positive working environment with a service orientated and
patient focussed approach to work

To manage and respond to complaints in a timely and sensitive manner as
agreed within SWUFT’s complaints process

To promote the reporting of untoward incidents/accidents and ensure
appropriate investigation, corrective action and documentation takes place

Strategic Management

To contribute to and actively promote the strategic aims and objectives of
 SWUFT and the LMNS project.

To develop the service model and build the capacity of the Pelvic Health
 pathway in response to demand across Coventry & Warwickshire Local
Maternity & Neonatal System (LMNS)

To lead on clinical governance issues by keeping up to date in
developments in latest evidence in relation to Pelvic Health services

To ensure that all staff are aware of, and abide by, professional guidelines,
 SWUFT policies and local policies, procedures and standards

To ensure that the service area meets general legislative requirements
including EC Directives, statutory body requirements, hazard and safety
notices, health and safety legislation and to exercise confidentiality as
 appropriate

To ensure the service has standards, structures and systems that ensure
full accountability for, and delivery of, safe, effective, high quality and
evidence-based clinical care

To work closely with the LMNS Perineal Midwife and Project Manager as
well as relevant departments, to ensure the delivery of the quality strategy
within the area of responsibility by representing the organisation at external meetings in a lead role/chairing capacity where appropriate, proposing and implementing strategies

To identify lessons learned from complaints, incidents and other forms of
patient and service feedback and ensure relevant changes are
implemented to improve the quality of services

To contribute to the development and reviewing of service specifications,
tenders and bids relating to specific service area

To utilise well developed analytical skills in reflecting on, and interpreting
complex information, facts or situations which require analysis or, option
 appraisal

In conjunction with the Physiotherapy Outpatient Pathway Lead, ensure
that the key performance indicators are delivered within the relative   service  area

To ensure relevant guidance is implemented in accordance with SWUFT
and the LMNS project and is accurately reflected in local policy and
procedures, ensuring consistency and fit with organisational structures,
assurance systems, strategies and delivery plans

Service Development and Improvement

To manage a significant change/improvement agenda setting standards of
responsiveness and innovation in client led services

To take the lead on specific areas of service development and identified
issues as agreed with the Physiotherapy Outpatient Pathway Lead

To be aware of the developments of best practice and research in the field
of pelvic health to effectively influence developments at a strategic level
and local level

To contribute to the creation, development and implementation of
guidelines and protocols of care relating to pelvic health

To actively participate in the business development of the service area
facilitating growth, contract compliance and a positive high profile for the
 service

To ensure that workforce development, planning and modernisation is
integral to the service area and explicit within the business planning cycle
 taking the lead in implementing service changes

To identify present and future equipment requirements necessary for
effective, safe delivery of patient care

To evaluate and monitor service delivery and in collaboration with others
 undertake service and role re-design where indicated to improve efficiency
 and effectiveness within services

To lead on the development and implementation of the service in line with
the strategic objectives and delivery plans, being responsive and flexible to
changing priorities and deadlines as delegated by the Physiotherapy
Outpatient Pathway Lead

To manage own time effectively and delegate appropriate functions
responsibly

To plan, coordinate and manage a variety of meetings involving a wide
range of attendees

 To work collaboratively with colleagues in other health, social care and
national organisations and with patients to support effective service delivery and service developments

To critically examine new research findings and ensure they inform practice
as appropriate

To actively disseminate and communicate with clinical teams about
advancements and standards of care

To identify, facilitate and participate in audit and research supporting this
both within the service and outside, evaluate results and implement
relevant changes

Management and Leadership

To develop a personal development action/work plan to be reviewed with
the Services Manager on a regular basis

To further develop own managerial skills, to maintain own continuing
 professional development by keeping abreast of any new trends and
developments and incorporate them as necessary into work; to maintain a
portfolio which demonstrates personal development and shows evidence
of reflective practice

Where required, to provide professional leadership and advice within area

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualified AHP registered with relevant professional body
  • Evidence of continuing professional and managerial development
  • Knowledge and expertise in leadership and management acquired through in-depth experience or theoretical study equivalent MSc level
  • HCPC registration

Experience

  • Experience within the NHS, across several areas/departments
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical therapeutic skills in rehabilitation or respiratory conditions
  • Demonstrable experience in a Health Service management/leadership role – or similar
  • Experience of working with different professional disciplines

  • Evidence of management and leadership in complex & changing organisation circumstances
