Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Mental Health Nurse to join the Memory and Assessment service team based in South Warwickshire.  

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they can work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team using evidence-based approaches in the delivery of interventions. This includes key working a caseload of service users under supervision from the senior nursing team.

We are seeking candidates who have experience of working in mental health settings who have a keen interest in working with older adults, are innovative, dynamic and are looking to develop their clinical skills. They will be able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills and exhibit behaviours that reflect Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust vision and values.

The successful candidate will receive support, managerial and professional supervision from the line managers in the service. Peer support and CPD opportunities are also available and actively encouraged. The post is a substantive position and would be a developing role for a newly qualified band 5 preceptee. 

Main duties of the job

  • You will have responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of the service to individual clients and their families and carers via a range of evidence-based interventions.
  • You will be required to deliver specific interventions in line with the treatment pathway.
  • You will develop your assessment skills by working with experienced clinicians 
  • Generate options including modification or alternatives to planned intervention to meet clinical need as appropriate.
  • Agree course of action with those responsible for performing the interventions including supporting junior staff.
  • You may be required to provide supervision for Nursing Associates and support workers in the team. 
  • You will  carry out reviews, assessments  and plan care delivery for individual service users within the framework of the current  Care Programme Approach
  • Enable service users to choose and take part in activities that are meaningful to them. These may include self care, education, recreational and work activities.
  • Participate as part of the multi-disciplinary team  implementing, evaluating and reviewing all aspects of the service users’ care
  • Advise, inform and support on the physical health and wellbeing of individuals (services users, their family, their significant other) in a holistic way

Essential criteria
  • Relevant Professional Qualification ie. RMN, DipCOT
  • Expertise within a discipline underpinned by theory
  • Professional clinical knowledge acquired through degree/ diploma

Knowledge and skills

  • Excellent written communication skills

Experience

  • Developed specialist knowledge gained within a similar environment over a considerable period of time
  • Knowledge of undertaking assessment, formulation, risk assessment and positive risk management
