The post is to act as a Principal Business Analyst for the Systems, Application and Reporting Team. 

This role has several functions in two key areas: BI Development and Business analysis. 

The role is key in supporting the management and development of new applications, supporting the specification process, helping to problem solve project issues.  Where necessary, the role is also key in providing support for data management development and developing reports that support new systems delivery.

To interact with the business stakeholders and subject matter experts in order to understand their requirements

To interact with system architects and developers to ensure the system is properly implemented

To be involved in the design or modification of business systems or IT systems both for internal and external CSU Customers

Present information and issues, explaining highly complex issues to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Prioritising business intelligence development activities, involving in negotiations around requirement specifications, effort estimations, Product release planning both with customers and other Project Team Members.

  • To act as the Principal Business Analyst to the Systems, Applications and Reporting Team
  • The postholder will be required to maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in relevant internal and external working groups/projects, services and initiatives to provide information and analytical advice and expertise.
  • To develop systems specifications with customers that lead to the development of new systems or enhance existing systems
  • To interact with the business stakeholders and subject matter experts in order to understand their requirements
  • To interact with system architects and developers to ensure the system is properly implemented
  • To be involved in the design or modification of business systems or IT systems both for internal and external CSU Customers
  • To help test systems and create system documentation and user manuals
  • To deputise for the Systems and Reporting Lead at meetings with customers both internally and externally to AGEM CSU
  • Present information and issues, explaining highly complex issues to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Should be proficient with Microsoft SQL Server Technology and Kimball Data Warehousing Design Methodologies.
  • Should keep up to date with latest versions and features of SQL server and other appropriate Microsoft Technology Stack
  • Prioritising business intelligence development activities, involving in negotiations around requirement specifications, effort estimations, Product release planning both with customers and other Project Team Members
  • Take ownership for completion of development activities as determined during Project Planning Phase and highlight any risks / impediments for timely delivery to Project/Programme Managers
  • To design and develop Datawarehouse and Business Intelligence code across database engine, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS. Should be proficient in TSQL
  • Knowledge on Microsoft.Net technology and Programming (C#, VB.Net) is desirable
  • To be available as Tier-3 support to resolve any incidents/bugs during business hours, which may extend to out of hours during the day depending on the urgency
  • Should be prepared to work during after hours and weekends to execute/support in any disaster recovery, migration or system change activities which need to be carried outside business hours. This will be pre-planned and compensation day-off can be arranged with the manager/project lead.
  • To read and understand complex technical specification material so that these can be further developed into specifications for design and development.
  • To work in a matrix environment with other teams within the CSU to ensure that technologies integrate, and that data is delivered in a usable and timely manner
  • Be available to undertake any specific training arranged by the Organisation to support development work
  • To provide support on established products to end-users
  • To develop protocols to ensure that database integrity is paramount in systems development, so a consistent view on activity and finance is available, accessible within a defined time period.
  • To ensure that all products are thoroughly tested before final release to the end user.
  • To work autonomously, guided by national policy, regulations or guidance – in particular referring to Data Set Change Notices (DSCNs). To advise customer organisations on the interpretation and impact of policies and initiatives.
  • Provide regular reporting on the targeting of resources and monitoring their implementation from a value for money perspective.
  • Provide oversight and monitoring of all aspects of delegated team budgets
  • Evaluate projects/functions within identified portfolio for delivery against financial recovery/savings plans through providing sophisticated, high quality project analysis.
  • Take a lead in the co-ordination of training, development, and recruitment activity across the Team
  • Manage staff, undertaking appraisals, recruitment including progressing any disciplinary or capability issues, as necessary.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Qualified to a Degree Level in an IT Subject or equivalent skills or experience in NHS IM&T
  • Technical development experience to Degree level or equivalent
  • Experience of working on medium scale, highly complex, tight deadline projects
  • Experience of working as a Business Analyst
