An exciting opportunity to join the Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist team at UHCW has arisen. Mainly concentrating on all aspects of Urology, the suitable candidate will be expected to participate in many procedures and clinics within the discipline. This is an ideal opportunity to enhance a candidates knowledge and practice in Urology cancer. The clinics covered will be numerous and will have a focus on bladder cancer. The clinics covered will include, but not limited to BCG, new bladder cancer
clinics and oversight of urostomy inpatient and outpatient care. The candidate will be an integral member of the wider Urology MDT workings and with appropriate training and support will develop and implement opportunities for advancing nursing practice and for ensuring collaborative working relationships, incorporating expert clinical practice, leadership, consultation and education.
Please note that if this post was to be offered on a fixed term/secondment basis, this would be for 12months.
Main duties of the job
- Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care, utilising research findings as appropriate.
- Support, advice and teach catheter care for patients with long term indwelling catheters/urostomy/nephrostomy.
- Provide additional assessment and perform uroflowmetry and bladder scanning for patients. Assist,perform, interpret and plan care of action with specialist investigation such as Urodynamics Study, USS, X-rays.
- Teach patients/carers intermittent self-catheterisation and self-dilatation.
- Undertake male and female catheter changes (urethral and S/P)
- Having awareness of the ‘Living well and beyond cancer’ strategy to support newly diagnosed cancer patients.
- Be able to signpost cancer patients for emotional and psychological support throughout their cancer pathway.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Provide a one stop assessment for patients referred with trial without a catheter, urinary retention and breaking bad news.
- Initiate or participate in clinical audit/research projects and urology presentations. Set up new nurse led urology clinics to help patients and Urology Department.
- Liaise with the Multi-disciplinary team in providing efficient and effective care meet the needs of the service.
- Ensuring that nursing procedures are carried out in accordance with UHCW Trust policy taking appropriate action in emergency situations.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
