Orthopaedic Specialist Training Program equivalent status to UK year 6 trainee, or above

The principle clinical supervisors are Mr Peter Thompson and Prof Andrew Metcalfe, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons and further training opportunities with Mr Feisal Shah and Mr Nick Smith.

The fellowship is offered for 6 months and is based at University Hospital Coventry and Rugby St Cross Hospital.

The post is intended for a surgeon who has a specialist interest in knee surgery and it will cover both elective and traumatic knee conditions.  It is mainly a clinical based fellowship though there will be opportunities for research in conjunction with the Academic Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Warwick.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include:

  • Regular Orthopaedic outpatient clinics at UH Coventry and Rugby St Cross Hospitals.
  • Operating sessions at both hospitals but the majority of elective orthopaedics is delivered at St Cross hospital.
  • Supervising the treatment of patients in UH Coventry and at Rugby St Cross Hospital.
  • Carrying our regular ward rounds as appropriate.
  • Participation in clinical audit and research activities within the unit.
  • Active involvement in the training and supervision of Junior Medical Staff on ward rounds, in theatre and in clinics, including the teaching of medical and nursing students.
