Job overview
Clinical Nurse Specialist for the care and on-going management of patients diagnosed with Brain or other Central Nervous System cancers.
Sucessful candidate will need highly developed communication skills and able to show resilience due to the nature of speciality.
The post holder will develop and implement opportunities for advancing nursing practice and for ensuring collaborative working relationships, incorporating expert clinical practice, leadership, consultation and education.
Main duties of the job
1. Accountable for own actions in accordance with Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute towards corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
2. The post holder will be a designated Neuro Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist within the hospital and will provide expert specialist advice for patients, relative and carers in relation to a colorectal cancer diagnosis and to other health care professionals.
3. To provide emotional support to patients, their families and staff during difficult situations e.g. breaking bad news or following an unexpected event.
4. To be an active member of the appropriate site specific MDT, utilising excellent communication skills, enabling maintenance of a high quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations.
5. Demonstrate a high level of clinical, technical and research skills through breadth and depth of knowledge.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. A knowledgeable clinical nurse specialist, supporting staff, the Neuro Oncology Service and policy development within the specialty.
2. To develop nurse led clinics and to undertake highly specialised technical and/or practical skills, including advanced health assessments and non-medical prescribing to ensure optimum patient management.
3. To ensure that the patients holistic needs are taken into account in the decision making process.
4. A resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
5. Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes. Supporting the Band 6 Neuro oncology nurse with Rehabilitation plans for service users
6. Responsible for education and training provision of identified staff groups within defined areas, and ensuring that evidence based care is embedded into practice.
7. Utilise and ensure that others utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data available
