Job overview
The Critical Illness Rehabilitation Team (CIRT) is looking for a Therapy Technician. Are you interested in supporting the recovery of patients post-acute illness? Do you wish to enhance the outcomes of patients through rehabilitation? If so, this role may be for you.
CIRT provides input to patients within the Critical Care areas and then supports their transition onto the wards. They provide early and structured rehabilitation to optimise recovery and prevent de-conditioning.
Please note that this is a part time role, which must have a minimum of 3 days per week covered.

Main duties of the job
Under the supervision of a Registered Therapist the post holder will be expected to:
- Treat patients, following protocols that have been delegated to them e.g. walking aid assessments, progression of treatments, participating in planned group work, activities of daily living, personal care and individual activities as part of ongoing treatment. Only undertaking tasks that they have been trained to carry out
- Independently develop and provide exercise programmes for individual patients, with the guidance of a registered therapist where appropriate
- Use knowledge and understanding of common physical, mental and behavioural health conditions to recognise deterioration in service users. Respond by promptly escalating concerns to a registered practitioner

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Develops, manages and maintains positive, appropriate relationships with service users, families and carers providing person-centred care
- Understands the different influences that impact on health outcomes for service -users and their families including health inequalities
- Understands the aims and principles of health promotion, protection and improvement and seeks support from a registered practitioner when a service user signals a desire to change their health behaviour.
- To undertake initial screening of patients to inform the OT / Physio in prioritising and allocating cases.
- Understands the importance of adhering to codes of practice, clinical procedures and professional standards
- Understands and demonstrates the principles of team and partnership working and is able to define own duties and role
- Understands the role boundaries and importance of supervision and carrying out appropriate delegated tasks, ensuring timely completion
- Provides feedback on service user progress and condition, recognises the impact of support and interventions, and suggests ideas for improvement when developing, reviewing and evaluating care plans based on objective evidence and experience.
- Uses knowledge and understanding of common physical, mental and behavioural health conditions to recognise deterioration in service users. Responds by promptly escalating concerns to a registered practitioner.
- Ensures safe and effective use of equipment by service users, carers and family members, including fitting demonstration, and teaching of safe and appropriate use. Ensures equipment is safe.
- Keeps complete, clear, accurate and timely records, utilising digital platforms as required
- Communicates effectively through a variety of methods including the use of interpersonal, written and verbal and non-verbal skills
- Reports any incidents, accidents or complaints in a timely manner, taking appropriate action as necessary
- Following qualified therapists instructions or as part of protocol, to continue/commence treatments.
- To maintain the department and equipment in a clean and orderly manner, bringing to the notice of relevant people anything that is damaged/worn.
- To ensure that areas are well maintained and comply with health and safety guidelines, ensuring the safe use of equipment and storage of materials.
- To exercise good personal time management, punctuality and consistent reliable attendance.
