The Paediatric Orthopaedic Department at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire is looking to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow for a period of 6 months or 1 year commencing in February 2025.

The successful candidate will work as part of the Paediatric Orthopaedic Team during the day to provide ward and emergency care for elective and trauma patients.

The position is intended for post-FRCS trainees who intend to pursue a career in paediatric orthopaedics but may also suit those seeking paediatric experience prior to CESR application.

Main duties of the job

Duties will also include:      

  • Consultant and Registrar ward rounds
  • Pre-operative preparation and post operative care of patients
  • Elective and Fracture outpatient clinics
  • Elective and Trauma Operating sessions as required
  • Active involvement in the training and supervision of Junior Medical Staff on ward rounds, in theatre and in clinics, including the teaching of medical and nursing students.
  • Participation in departmental audit and research
  • Specialist clinics (e.g. baby clinic, neuromuscular clinic, CPIP MDT clinic, gait laboratory)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As well as experience in the generality of children’s orthopaedics, the department can offer specific exposure to paediatric trauma, infant hip and foot pathologies, and advanced assessment and treatment of neuromuscular conditions in the Coventry Gait Analysis Laboratory. Depending on requirements, the successful candidate could spend some time with other relevant specialist services, for example, the young adult hip service, foot and ankle team or hand team.
