This would be an excellent opportunity to increase your expertise in all aspects of stroke care. The stroke unit (ward 41) has 6 hyperacute and 30 acute/rehabilitation beds. The stroke service lies within the Department of Neurosciences and you will join a team that consists of 6 consultant stroke physicians (from different parent specialties: Geriatrics, Acute Medicine, Neurology), 2 Neurology Specialist Registrars, a Geriatric Specialist Registrar and 8 Junior Clinical Fellows, an F1 trainee as well as a 24/7 rota of Stroke Clinical Nurse Specialists [CNS], a stroke co-ordinator and 2 research nurses/facilitators.

Main duties of the job
· To provide stroke services for the Trust in collaboration with colleagues in all disciplines including primary and tertiary care, where appropriate, to provide an integrated service for all patients.
· To take on-going responsibility for patients under the consultant’s care.
· To develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialities and participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities.
· To demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit – this will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice.
· Ensure own practice is up to date; this will include taking responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development and participating in the Trust’s Performance and Annual Review system.
· Sharing responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers.
· Complying with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures.
· Taking responsibility for improving and complying with infection control practices.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate would take part in the daytime acute stroke service including assessment of suspected stroke patients in the Emergency Department, acute TIA and stroke follow up clinics and participate in running the day-to-day activities on the stroke ward. Training can be given for all aspects of stroke management. There will be ample opportunity to gain experience in other fields of stroke management including radiology, stroke audit and research etc.
You will be given a named Clinical Supervisor who will meet with you during the post and oversee your training.
Academic activities within the department include regular a Monday radiology meeting and a Tuesday Academic afternoon and monthly patient safety/audit meetings as well as participation in multi-centre research trials.
To provide, in collaboration with clinical colleagues, a comprehensive Stroke service to patients in the Coventry and Warwickshire Areas. This will include ensuring that all appropriate waiting lists and waiting times are adhered to; that services are provided in an effective and efficient manner and that the principles of risk management and clinical governance are maintained at all times.
