Applicants are invited for the post of VR Clinical Fellow (ST7+) in Ophthalmology at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust.

We are looking for dynamic doctor for a post within a well-established Ophthalmology service; the initial term will be 12 months renewable thereafter. 

This post offers significant clinical and surgical exposure within the Vitreoretinal service. The post is suitable for those with a special interest in the VR service within Ophthalmology. Research and Audit is actively encouraged and supported in the department with ample opportunities.

The post is offered with a job plan of 10 Professional Activities (PAs) with a flexible theatre and outpatient session. 

Main duties of the job

To actively provide and support the first class Ophthalmology & Vitreoretinal surgery services for the Trust, working in collaboration with clinical colleagues in all disciplines to provide an integrated service for patients.

Responsibilities include VR specialty clinic, Acute VR clinics and VR theatre, as directed on the timetable. 

Ward duties may include attending ward rounds and examination of pre-and postoperative patients.  Further ward duties may be required as necessary, when any of the SHO's are on leave to provide continued continuity of care.  Most patients are assessed in preoperative assessment clinics prior to admission.

Teaching is an integral part of the unit, with junior doctors, medical students, orthoptic and optometry students rotating through the department. The candidate will be expected to participate in seminars and lectures for medical students, junior doctors and other professional or lay groups with health interests.

The working week has 8 sessions devoted to direct clinical care and 2 SPA/admin sessions of which to support CPD, audit, teaching and training. Please see Job Description and Person Spec for timetable.
