This post designed to compliment the services at the University Hospital. Junior medical staff currently comprise of one Specialist Registrar post in Neurophysiology

This is a whole time (10 sessions) Speciality Doctor in Clinical Neurophysiology post at University Hospital in Coventry.

 

The Model of Service

 

The trust is the focus for Neurophysiology services in Coventry and Warwickshire area. In addition to the services provided for patients with diseases and injuries of the nervous system at the centre, the trust provides Neurophysiology services to many of the neighbouring hospitals. The centre manages comprehensive neurophysiology services at the University Hospital, Coventry. The model of service for Neurophysiology is on a hub and spoke network principle and is similar to that adopted by the University Hospital Coventry for its neurology services. Routine EEG and EMG investigations are based at University Hospital Coventry for the surrounding population, with provision for more specialist investigations to be undertaken at the centre. Long term Vedio (Inpatient) and ambulatory EEG services are also provided

Main duties of the job

Teaching and supervision of the specialist registrars is an important part of the role and specialist registrars are often attached to the clinics.

Reporting sessions for EEGs will include standard outpatient EEGs, Ambulatory and Long term inpatient video EEGs. Sufficient time will be allocated for checking and approving reports within the session.  Some reporting sessions may also include evoked responses, mainly VER,ERGs and EP studies.

Audit and Continuing Medical Education are important parts of the post. The trust supports the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians and is committed to providing time and support for these activities. It expected that the post holder will participate in the inter departmental assessments of practice (EEG Reporting, EMG studies etc.)  It is also expected that the post holder will undertake specific audits into their own practice.  It is a requirement that they undergo an annual appraisal and attend mandatory health and safety (ALS) training.

In addition to the commitment to teach and supervise the specialist registrars it is expected that the post holder will also participate in teaching the student and qualified physiologists within the department and those attached from other units. There is also a teaching programme for other junior medical staff within the University Hospital and medical students.
