Job overview

A full time position has become available for an experienced Phlebotomist to join our Domiciliary Phlebotomy Service.

You Will be required to work autonomously to obtain the requested blood samples from referred patients within their own home.

The role requires you to work across Coventry and as such it is important that you hold a current full UK driving licence.

Main duties of the job

This  is a community post; therefore you must be able to travel throughout the city in a timely manner and  carrying equipment. You will also be expected to support students as part of their basic training and colleagues as part of their professional development. The post holder will be required to attend a period of induction and training before commencing their role.

As a Valued staff member your development will be supported through a robust induction program, a value based appraisal, one to one clinical and managerial  supervisions. 

Working hours are Monday- Friday 8.30am -4.30pm.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To perform venepuncture for patients in their own homes and in clinic settings as required without direct supervision.
  • The assist with the assessment and training of other clinicians in the acquisition of the skill, helping them to achieve competency in this area of practice.
  • To maintain responsibility for meeting the requirements of the Service.
  • To show adherence to Trust Policies and Procedures practicing to a high standard.
  • To effectively manage resources within a span of control and set parameters.
  • To work coherently as a team member using own initiative.
  • To be an integral part of the Domiciliary Phlebotomy team, liaising closely with community nurses, GP’s and clinicians within University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW).
  • To maintain duty rosters and organise daily work allocation to phlebotomy team, escalating any staffing concerns to the Manager.
  • To work across any aspect of the pathway, being adaptable to visiting areas that are unfamiliar should this be necessary in order to meet service need and patient demand.
  • To take blood samples from patients in accordance with the service specification, exercising care and attention to detail in patient identification and to complete the skill in accordance with local policies and procedures
  • To assist with the training and development of clinicians at all levels. Supporting them to acquire venepuncture skills using a range of phlebotomy techniques.
  • To ensure that up to date written/electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Trust standards.
