Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Consultant Clinical Psychologist / Psychological Therapist for the community adult non-psychosis pathway. This is an exciting time in community teams as the Transformation agenda progresses,  the post holder will be part of shaping the teams and what interventions they deliver in years to come. 

The post is the professional lead for a team of psychological therapists and will be part of a collective leadership team. There are a broad range of psychological models deliver in the teams, including (but not exclusive to) CBT, CBT-p, MBT, SCM, Family Interventions, EMDR and CAT. The services have been proactive in developing treatment pathways and in providing training and scaffolding for colleagues around psychological interventions.

Main duties of the job

In addition to a skilled clinician, trained in a relevant evidence based therapy, we are also looking for a supervisor and leader who can help the team continue to develop their psychology service and offer. The post holder is a welcome and integral part of the wider leadership team, whilst changes in-line with Community Transformation are currently progressing in Central teams, building on existing provision and NHSE funded training courses.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder is responsible for developing and providing a qualified specialist psychological therapy service for clients within North Cumbria locality and is responsible for professional governance and assurance for that service. The post holder ensures that psychological services resources are integrated into the designated pathway, and that high quality individualised care is delivered.

Education and Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychological therapies, at least one distinct psychological therapy as accredited by the HCPC and British Psychological Society.
  • HCPC registered practitioner psychologist

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial post qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across a range of care settings.
  • Substantial further specialist training and experience, equivalent to at least 6 years’ experience, including being able to demonstrate further specialist training and experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a clinical psychologist over a minimum of 18 months or an alternative agreed by the Psychological Services Professional Lead
  • Substantial experience of providing clinical supervision.
  • Experience of contributing to strategic clinical or organisational development and/or service development or service redesign
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex multivariable data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.

Skills and Competencies

Essential criteria
  • Specialist skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
  • Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinical sensitive information to clients, their family, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Specialist teaching & training skills.
  • Specialist skills in providing clinical supervision and consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
  • Skills in strategic/organisational work and service development / redesign.
  • Substantial skills in research and/or clinical audit.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC
  • Formal training in clinical supervision of trainee clinical psychologists and other staff
  • Skills in managing emotional impact of dealing with highly emotive and distressing situations through self management and use of the clinical supervision process
