Job overview
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 7 Specialist Nurse - to work in the Community Acquired Brain injury Service (CABIS).
CABIS provides specialist community based neuro rehabilitation for people 16 years and over, who have sustained an acquired brain injury (ABI). We also offer support to families and carers. A central part of the role involves a nurse led multi-disciplinary clinic that provides assessment and recovery advice for people who have attended the local Emergency Departments following head trauma. You will also provide support and advice to the multi-disciplinary team on the medical aspects of recovery following moderate to severe brain injury.
CABIS is well-established in Sunderland and Gateshead locality and South Tyneside. This will offer the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to be part of this new service development as well as contributing to Sunderland, Gateshead and South Tyneside.
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will possess acute and/or medical nursing experience, excellent leadership skills, along with a strong commitment to the delivery of high quality, safe, patient care.
The successful candidate will work across Sunderland, Gateshead and South Tyneside localities in a range of community settings, locality bases and patient’s own home.

Education & Qualification
Essential criteria
- First Level Nursing Qualification and Registration
- Minimum two years’ experience post registration.
- Mentor training
- Non Medical Prescribing Qualification
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and Experience of substance/alcohol misuse including NICE guidelines for Addictions prescribing
- Experience in management of complex cases
- Collaborative working across agencies and professional disciplines including MDT settings
- Experience of providing clinical supervision to staff
- Teaching / Presentation Skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a community team
Role/Team specific requirements
Essential criteria
- Hold a full UK driving licence and be able to meeting the geographical location of North Tyneside and Northumberland

- Training in CPA (Care Programme Approach), Safeguarding, MAPPA (Multi Agency Panel for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults) and Child Protection. Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation. Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives. Ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs. Risk Assessment and Risk Management / Safety Planning skills
