With an expanding service, and a plan for new Paediatric High Dependency with the initial opening of 2 beds, now is the time to join our team and be part of shaping our amazing transformation!
 
Are you a motivated and talented nurse with experience in Paediatric Intensive Care or High Dependency Care? Do you want to work in a challenging environment?

We are looking to recruit Band 5 staff nurses to work on Paediatric Critical Care at the Great North Children's Hospital.
 
It is our aim to increase our outstanding, dynamic team by recruiting experienced, highly motivated children’s nurses with critical care are skills, who have experience of caring for critically ill children. We are looking for staff who are caring, compassionate, skilled, meticulous and enthusiastic. Previous PICU/ PHDU experience is not essential.

The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the GNCH is an 18 bedded unit, and can provide you with opportunities unavailable to you in most areas. The only PICU covering the North East of England, we look after children requiring a higher level of care than can be provided locally, across a range of medical and surgical specialities.  As well as being part of the Regional Trauma Centre, the GNCH caters for a range of specialities including neurosurgery, oncology, BMT and plastic surgery, with our support.  We have 12 commissioned PICU beds and 2 PHDU beds, due to open Autumn 2024.
 
You will be well supported by a bespoke education programme supported by the PICU clinical education team as part of induction to the unit and a planned approach to undertaking further development opportunities.

  • Accountable for assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating high quality patient care in the Paediatric Intensive Care / High Dependency environment.
  • Provide effective support to both patient and carers throughout their care pathway.
  • Act as role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff and students, participating in mentor and preceptorship programmes
    To abide by Trust policies and procedures.
  • Provide support for and depending on experience deputise for nurse in charge in their absence.
  • Act as patient advocate in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code / Health and Care Professions Council standards of conduct, performance and ethics.
  • Work collaboratively as an effective member of MDT.
  • Participate in 24 hour on call service when appropriate to role. 

 

Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month’s pay.
