Job overview

Nelson Medical Group is looking for a Salaried GP for 4 to 6 Sessions per week  (4 sessions must be on a Thursday and Friday) to join our Training Practice within Northumbria Primary Care.  This is to replace an upcoming vacancy and also to increase our GP workforce, having recently been approved as a training practice. We are keen to hear from candidates who have an interest in teaching medical students and training GP Registrars and we are open to candidates who would like to explore any special interests, as some already do, thanks to our unique links with Northumbria Healthcare Trust.

North Shields is a coastal town on the North bank of the River Tyne, 8 miles north-east of Newcastle Upon Tyne. There is a metro station within walking distance with great links to Newcastle city centre to the West, beautiful coastline to the East and Northumberland hills to the North.

Nelson Medical Group is small and friendly practice who have regular team meetings and catch-up time. We promote an inclusive family atmosphere and work closely as a team which helps build an understanding of our patients at population and individual level, as well as supporting continuity of care.

Main duties of the job

The GP role will be working with both acute and long-term medical conditions.  The practice is a named Harbour Practice supporting victims of domestic violence and also offers GP cover for a step-down psychiatric unit nearby. Integrating with a developing clinical team at practice level including ANP, paramedic, ACP and practice nurses along with another 5 GPs. A mixture of routine clinics, supervisory clinics with extra slots for debrief with registrar or medical students and duty doctor (50% of 6pm finishes cross covered by Spring Terrace Health Centre, also part of NPC).

As a GP practice, we work with flexibility and independence to run the surgery based on what is best for our patients and staff, and additionally we have the regular and consistent support of the wide NPC team to help us to focus on what is clinically important and have support from other practices to help improve resilience across the system.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Salaried GP the post holder will be a key clinician within the team at Nelson Medical Group and Northumbria Primary Care Limited. A job plan will be agreed with you, the post holder, who will provide general medical services and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting.

As part of this unique relationship with the Trust, post holders also have the opportunity for portfolio working. We also have close links with North Shields PCN where we can offer additional out of hours work at enhanced rates, if the post-holder wishes to.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent (JCPTGP/nMRCGP)
  • Membership of a recognized defence union (MPS/MDU)
  • Currently on a performers list and never been removed from a performers list for a detrimental reason
Desirable criteria
  • DRCOG
  • DFFP/FFFP
  • DCH

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical training and experience as a General Practitioner
  • Evidence of recent self-directed learning or development
