Job overview

We are looking for a Performance Analyst to join NHS Workforce Recruitment Services. In this role you will work with data across our range of recruitment services to analyse performance, identify improvements and streamline the ways in which we work. You will play a key role in shaping how we access, collate, and use our data. 

We have NHSBSA bases in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Wakefield, Fleetwood, Middlebrook and Eastbourne. Your base location would be closest to your home however you'd predominantly work from home with a requirement for occasional travel to Newcastle Upon Tyne (and potentially other locations).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the NHS Workforce Recruitment Services Senior Management Team by delivering a high-quality information and analysis service to support and underpin information needs for the service.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the performance analysis of the live service as well as supporting the project team, within NHSBSA, responsible for the design and implementation of NHS Workforce Recruitment Services.

In this role you would be expected to develop performance measurement frameworks (KPIs, goals, user needs, benefits etc) and subsequently analyse the performance of the service against these. Using advanced analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex data and information, the post holder will support business decisions and make recommendations for improvements and efficiencies for NHS Workforce Recruitment Services and, when requested, the wider business and external customers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Job purpose:
The post holder will support the NHS Workforce Recruitment Services Senior Management Team by delivering a high-quality information and analysis service to support and underpin information needs for the service.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the performance analysis of the live service as well as supporting the project team, within NHSBSA, responsible for the design and implementation of NHS Workforce Recruitment Services.

In this role you would be expected to develop performance measurement frameworks (KPIs, goals, user needs, benefits etc) and subsequently analyse the performance of the service against these. Using advanced analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex data and information, the post holder will support business decisions and make recommendations for improvements and efficiencies for NHS Workforce Recruitment Services and, when requested, the wider business and external customers.


In this role, you are accountable for:

1.    Handling large datasets with a clear understanding of how to clean, process, analyse, and visualise data.
 
2.    Accessing and developing systems to collect, collate, analyse and retain all forms of quality, financial and management information.

3.    Delivering analytical products required to support the reporting of management information and insight alongside producing and maintaining the reporting suite that delivers quality information to the service.

4.    Conducting advanced analysis, interpretation, and presentation of complex data to create compelling evidence-based and actionable data stories to share with stakeholders to support decision making.

5.    Collating and analysing data to make recommendations for improvements and efficiencies for NHS Workforce Recruitment Services and, when requested, the wider business and external customers.

6.    Communicating complex and, at times, sensitive data, and analysis affectively at all levels, to both technical and non-technical audiences either verbally or in writing. Ensuring the information provided is accessible and understandable and conforms to high standards.

7.    Working as part of, or with, an Agile or Scrum team, where appropriate, on a specific project or in day-to-day continuous improvement activities.

8.    Representing the organisation as a data/business expert with internal and external customers.

9.    Maintaining and adapting any web-based electronic reporting system environments in line with customer requirements.

10.    Supporting training and advice across the service in relation to the appropriate usage and understanding of the performance analysis data.

11.    Ensuring the integrity of the data and all reports and information requests are quality checked in conjunction with business experts and Statisticians, where appropriate.

12.    Working collaboratively with a diverse range of customers/users within the organisation, the NHS and external organisations to define and develop new information products and enhance the existing information provision. Working closely with third party suppliers where appropriate.
 
13.    Participating in user acceptance testing for new or changed information systems.

14.    Working with project teams to procure, implement and validate appropriate analytics tools against identified performance measurement frameworks.

15.    Informing the iterative design of the service to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and accuracy.

16.    Provide challenge from a digital perspective and collaborating with other digital and analytical professions, especially User Researchers, to provide collective insights.

17.    Undertaking such other duties as may be required commensurate with grade, training and experience.

Personal Qualities, Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Pays attention to detail
  • Able to absorb technical information quickly.
  • Able to work on multiple activities in a changing environment and deliver to stringent deadlines.
  • Able to critically appraise and interpret highly complex data and advise on actions based on the comparison of a range of options
  • Able to use database, statistical, word processing, spread sheet and presentational IT packages to interrogate and produce complex and, at times, highly sensitive reports.
  • Able to communicate complicated issues in a clear manner to audiences with varying levels of understanding
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Packages
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS landscape.
  • Knowledge of recruitment systems.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of using web-based reporting tools such as Google Analytics or Oracle Business Intelligence.
  • Experience of collecting, validating and analysing data
  • Experience in personally resolving complex data queries.
  • Experience of advising and supporting business areas to gain more insight and value from data
  • In-depth specialist knowledge of information and quality analysis through relevant qualification(s) or acquired through training or relevant on the job experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Worked in the NHS or other large organisation.
  • Worked as part of or with an Agile or Scrum team on a specific project or in day-to-day continuous improvement activities

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as data analysis or can demonstrate equivalent work experience or further education training.
Desirable criteria
  • Degree in mathematics/statistics or subject requiring a high level of numeracy, or equivalent qualification or experience
