An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the CNTW Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Employment Support Service in the specialist Addictions Team based at Plummer Court in Newcastle.

Main duties of the job

We help anyone working with the Newcastle Treatment and Recovery Service (NTaR) pursue their employment ambitions in a highly person-centred way using an evidence-based approach that is proven to work.

Following service developments we have one Band 5 post available in our Plummer Court-based IPS-AD Team.

This post is fixed-term for 8 months but we hope to extend it pending further discussion with our stakeholders.

This job would be perfect for anyone who:

  • To know the IPS method inside out as we’ll train you.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are excited to be recruiting for a fixed-term IPS-AD Employment Specialist to work within the brilliant IPS for Alcohol and Drug Dependency Team based at Plummer Court in Central Newcastle.

This post is initially fixed-term but we are working hard to gain further funding to seek to extend the service and this post-holders contract.

The role requires building strong relationships with people using Recovery services , using our evidence-based tools to identify their ambitions and then use employer engagement techniques to gain or retain employment on their behalf.

This is an exciting, varied and hugely gratifying role that rewards tenaciousness, creativity and excellent communication skills.

Person specification

Education and Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Multi-disciplinary team work.
  • Proven ability to develop therapeutic partnership with service users and carers.
  • Evidence of trust and service values and beliefs in working practice.
  • Evidence of having unconditional positive regard for individuals experiencing serious mental health.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience of working with people with substance use challenges and/or mental health problems or a similar user group
  • Further relevant post qualifying training
  • Experience of involving service users/ carers in evaluation/planning and monitoring of services
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the statutory issues which impact on service users.
  • Good understanding of the principles and practice of supported employment
  • Awareness of common challenges associated with addiction and recovery and how these can impact on an individual.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of employment law
  • Knowledge of IPS principles of approach
  • Knowledge of the benefits system.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of working in Newcastle
  • Awareness of services, businesses and community provision in local area

Skills and Competencies

Essential criteria
  • Ability to use IT system
  • Adaptability, flexibility, good communication skills and a commitment to multi-agency team work
