Job overview

An exiting new role has become available within NPC based across Northumberland Health. We are looking for someone who has a passion for leadership and the efficient and effective delivery of dispensary and medicine management services. The role would be based from Felton Surgery Dispensary and on occasions the main site at Widdrington Surgery. 

 

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive and modern Primary Care Dispensary Service.  Allocate work and supervise other staff.  Supporting the pharmacist to co-ordinate activities to provide the opportunity to develop effective medicines management and improve the experience and health outcomes for all patients wherever medicines are involved.

Whilst appointees will have a base practice within NPC, they may be asked to work at other practices across our group. We do however limit this as much as possible as we appreciate continuity is vital to effective primary care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To communicate routine information with other practice staff to ensure that a safe and effective system of supply of medicines is maintained to patients.

Liaise closely with other Leads regarding patient information and medicines management Attending the regular external medicines management meetings and feeding back as appropriate.

To undertake activities within the dispensary and practice which contributes to the efficient and effective delivery of medicines to patients.

To participate in the dispensing and final checking of medication for practice patients.

To participate in the provision of dispensary topping up services including the ordering, distribution and the safe/secure storage of medicines.

To undertake the preparation of medicines e.g. over-labelled packs.

To undertake activities within the dispensary and practice which contributes to the efficient and effective delivery of medicines to patients.

To participate in the dispensing and final checking of medication for practice patients.

To follow Dispensary and wider NPC operating procedures.

To ensure NPC is working within the Medicines Optimisation agenda

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good standards of literacy and numeracy equivalent to GCSE grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Must hold BTEC in pharmaceutical science or NVQ Level 3 supported by appropriate underpinning knowledge e.g. BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences, NPA or equivalent qualification in Pharmacy Services or have experience to the equivalent level.
  • Recognised pharmacy dispensing qualification (NPA, Boots, Buttercups or other accredited in-house programmes etc.)
