We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Estates Officer who can keep our sites well maintained, safe and compliant for our service users, staff and visitors.

Main duties of the job

  • Our Estates Officers play a crucial role in making sure that our estate operates in an efficient and safe manner. We maintain hospital sites and that means clinical teams rely on the work we do so they can provide patient care. That makes what we do rewarding and satisfying due to the role we play in supporting better care.
  • You’ll have experience of working within the full range of health and safety legislation and regulations from electrical installations through to Legionella and a track record of prioritising safety.
    You’ll work with a wide range of skilled trades as you coordinate planned work and deal with emergencies. As well as that you’ll interact with our customers across our sites making sure that what we do meets their needs.
  • You will manage our own Estates workforce as well as oversee contractors carrying out maintenance on a wide range of systems including:
    Fire alarm systems
    Staff alarm and nurse call systems
    Intruder alarm and security systems
    Electrical installations in accordance with all Institute of Electrical Engineering regulations and relevant standards
    Boiler plant (steam & Low Temperature Hot Water)
    Domestic Hot Water Systems and Cold Water Systems
    Laundry and catering equipment
    Hydrotherapy pool plant and equipment
    Drainage/sewerage
    Ventilation plant
    Air conditioning and refrigeration
    Building Management System control systems
    Building fabric repairs and maintenance

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive previous general experience in service, maintenance, and repair of all general building services and engineering trades
  • Extensive experience of building fabric maintenance and repair
  • Significant post qualification experience, use best practice and current methods and industry standards for maintenance
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Healthcare environments and operational management of large healthcare sites

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • The ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications without supervision and translate that information into an understandable/workable format for both trade staff and non-technical colleagues
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of contractual procedures and working within standing financial instructions relating to minor capital projects
  • To understand the inter-relationship between various maintenance crafts
  • Must be prepared to be flexible when dealing with inconsistent workloads
  • A good understanding of the clinical services provided by the Company
  • A good understanding of Information Technology in relation to Estates

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A HND in building services engineering or equivalent related subject or with equivalent substantial experience in specific estates related areas
  • Served a recognised apprenticeship in an appropriate discipline and have an in-depth understanding of Estates services in a hospital environment.
Desirable criteria
  • A degree in building services engineering or equivalent related subject
  • A minimum of 5 GCSE’s or equivalent to include English and Maths
  • Meet the mobility requirements of the role
  • Recognised training certificate in autoCAD drafting software
