Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated person to work as a band 3 Healthcare Assistant within the Outpatient Service at Gateshead NHS Trust.

We provide clinics across 9  sites including Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon Primary Care Centre, Bensham Hospital, Washington Primary Care Centre and Trinity Square across multiple specialties.

The position is working pre-dominantly Monday to Friday pro rata  and this may include weekends and evenings when needed, full-time/part-time considered.

We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, an excellent communicator and is both reliable and flexible and shares our values for providing excellence in healthcare.  Experience                                                               

 Experience within a healthcare environment is preferred.  However a car owner/driver who has access to a car on a daily basis and has the flexibility to travel to sites at short notice to support clinics is essential. Please ensure this is stated as part of your application.

Qualifications: Level 2 in Math’s and English or equivalent is essential, Level 2 Health and Social Care or Care Certificate preferred.

 

Main duties of the job

As a support worker you will be working closely with individuals, supporting the patient’s journey through the clinic setting. You will work closely with clinicians from all members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality, safe patient care across multiple sites both within the hospital and community setting.
1. Undertakes a range of clinical care duties in hospital and other external sites.
 2. Record patient observations including height, weight, BMI, ECG and changes to patient clinical conditions documenting in patient notes and on hospital IT systems.
 3.   Work flexibly, efficiently and effectively to ensure the smooth running of clinics

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·        On a sessional basis manage clinics independently/part of a team across a multiple site/specialty setting.

·       Initiate emergency action when required e.g. cardiac arrest, fire

·       Access Ice to print patient blood test information.

·       Participate in clinical skills as trained in line with role e.g. recording                  ECG’s/phlebotomy/Diabetic Foot Assessment.

·        Upload basic information to Care flow.

·       Support individuals to express their needs and wishes using a range of Communication tools.

·         Promote patients personal hygiene and physical health.

·         Actively engage in health promotion when appropriate.

·         Participate in late rotas, work flexibly to support the service.

·          Participate in transferring of patients who require hospital admission.

·         May have responsibility for patient monies/valuables which need to be handled within GHFT guidelines

·         Assist individuals with activities of daily living encouraging active

     Participation and independence

·            Participate in moving and handling of patients and other loads in compliance         with training and trust policy.
