The Estates Directorate is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and flexible Maintenance Assistant (shifts) to join the Engineering Department based at the Freeman Hospital.  The role will require the successful applicant to assist with the completion of various engineering maintenance tasks to ensure statutory, mandatory and Trust specific Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks are completed within a timely and efficient manner.

The successful candidate will have a basic knowledge of building and engineering services and relevant experience within a maintenance environment. Experience of basic electrical systems, water system testing, ventilation systems and working in an acute hospital environment is desirable, though not essential.

Typical PPM tasks will include, but are not limited to; water tank inspections; PAT testing, emergency light testing, ventilation grille cleaning; air handling unit inspections and cleaning, legionella prevention PPMs, fire alarm testing, Bed Maintenance etc.. Additional role requirements will also include the completion of minor works and day to day reactive maintenance of an Engineering/ Building manner. The applicant will also be required to assist the shift craftsperson as and when required.

  • Work under the direction of a craftsperson while working alongside
    1. Carry out a range of individual and support duties including maintenance and respond to Estates emergencies.
    2. Assist with installation, repair and commissioning of equipment.
  • Specific duties for site & plant room tidiness and safety
  • Carry out a range of maintenance activities on a variety of plant and equipment
  • Domestic appliance repairs
  • Bed Maintenance
  • Water Flushing 
  • Grille Cleaning

Specialist training and support will be provided where necessary with the chosen candidates

The role involves shift working covering the site on a 24/7 basis. The shift rota is based on a 5-week pattern consisting of (subject to change):

Week 1: Mon - OFF, Tue - OFF, Wed 0800-1600, Thu 0800-1600, Fri 0800-1600, Sat 1930-0800, Sun - 1930-0800

Week 2: Mon - OFF, Tue - OFF, Wed - OFF, Thu 1230-2000, Fri 1230-2000, Sat 0730-2000, Sun 1730-2000

Week 3: Mon - OFF, Tue - OFF, Wed 1230-2000, Thu 1230-2000, Fri 1230-2000, Sat - OFF, Sun - OFF

Week 4: Mon 1930-0800, Tue 1930-0800, Wed 1930-0800, Thu - OFF, Fri - OFF, Sat - OFF, Sun - OFF

Week 5: Mon 1200-2000, Tue 1200-2000, Wed 1200-2000, Thu 1930-0800, Fri 1930-0800, Sat - OFF, Sun OFF
