Job overview
We are seeking to recruit a part-time ward clerk to join our existing team within Medicine & Emergency Care.
The successful post holder will be based at The Northumbria Emergency Care Hospital and will provide day to day admin support to the wards. Shift working is required between the hours of 0800-2000, 7 days per week including all bank holidays on a pro rata basis with weekends being worked approximately 1:3.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide admin support, including maintaining good IT skills & recording of patient admissions, transfers and discharges on PAS & Nervecentre.
To undertake reception duties for multi disciplinary teams including answering the telephone and relaying messages to clinical staff.
To undertake general office administration duties including filing, using Mediviewer to retrieve medical notes and information, scanning & handling post.
Excellent communication skills and awareness of confidentiality.
Booking patient transport.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide a reception service, acting as first point of contact on the telephone or face to face, for patients, visitors and other healthcare professionals.
To facilitate good communication with other wards and departments involved in patient care or ward/departmental functioning
To input data regarding all admissions, transfers and discharges onto Patient Administration System.
To provide an efficient administration and clerical service to ward staff, visitors and patients

Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of Patient Administration System for admissions, transfers and discharges gained through in-house training and induction
- Previous office/reception experience.
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
