Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Oral Surgeon to work within Northumbria Healthcare. This is a permanent contract based in Northumbria Healthcare, to work in sites across Northumbria, North Tyneside and working jointly into Newcastle Upon Tyne on a Service Level Agreement.

The successful candidate will be working with the other Oral Surgeons in Northumbria Healthcare and Newcastle Hospitals with the opportunity to develop skills working alongside colleagues in other specialities where appropriate. The post holder will need to be able to work flexibly to address the priorities of the service, balancing time between 2 trusts and maintaining flexibility to support RTT performance targets with the benefit of having a largely predictable schedule. The post-holder will contribute to the senior cover at the Dental Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne and contribute to MDT and training.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be employed by Northumbria Healthcare working into Newcastle Hospitals regularly as a joint appointment. Northumbria Healthcare boasts excellent purpose built facilities in at Hexham General Hospital in a unit shared with Colleagues in Community Dental whilst Newcastle houses a Dental Hospital.

To provide oral surgery services to the population of Northumbria, North Tyneside and Newcastle upon Tyne. The job plan will be made up of outpatient and telephone clinics, Local anaesthetic and General anaesthetic sessions, MDT, training, education and service development.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Membership of RCS in Oral Surgery
  • Oral Surgery experience equivalent to that required to gain entry to UK CCT
  • To be eligible for consideration for a Consultant appointment by an Appointments Committee, candidates must be fully registered on the UK General Dental Council's Specialist Register. Specialist Registrars may apply if within 6 months of CCT at date of application
  • The appointee will be required to maintain full GDC or GMC registration and revalidation and should follow the GMC Code of Good Medical Practice
  • Demonstrable interest in all aspects of Oral Surgery management
  • Experience in service development

  • Formal training in Clinical Supervision/Training the Trainers
