Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 registered SCPHN School Nurse.

With evidenced knowledge of the current public health role and remit of School Nurses, you will have post registration recent and relevant experience of working with children & families in the community, be ambitious to take forward the public health agenda for children & young people, possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills and be committed to providing a high quality effective service to school aged children across the SBUHB area.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.   

There are a number of posts and hours available across Swansea Bay University Health Board. This will be discussed at interview.

Main duties of the job

The School Nurse will work as an autonomous practitioner and be responsible for continuously assessing and managing the caseload of children/families/carers without supervision.

They will provide school aged children with a health surveillance service and health promotion service which promotes the physical, mental and emotional health of school aged children, enabling them to reach their potential in order to benefit fully from educational opportunities and to be able to make informed choices. This will include home visiting and working with families including child protection, immunisations and Looked After Children.

The purpose is to search for unmet health needs and to provide advice or other relevant interventions for children, parents, carers, teachers on health issues which affect education or the transition to adult life.
