Job overview
The Paediatric Department at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join their team to undertake a 6-month Fixed term LAS ST Lower post. Post will commence 5th February 2025 until 5th August 2025. Post is not able to be extended beyond this date currently as covering a training vacancy.
The post-holder will have the opportunity to gain experience in an area of paediatrics similar to that of other trainees in the department. The post will be predominantly ward based but with opportunity to attend clinics. The post will participate on the on call rota.
The successful candidates will work together with the wider clinical team of Consultants, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Junior Doctors and other Allied Health Professionals to provide high quality, safe and effective clinical care. Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team. Applicants must hold Full GMC registration with a licence to practise or show evidence that it will be issued by start date. We are not able to sponsor candidates for GMC registration.
Main duties of the job
This post is aimed at ST Lower level. The post will start as soon as possible. The post-holder will have the opportunity to gain experience in Paediatrics. In addition to this, there will be specific responsibilities in relation to the Paediatric Assessment Unit, the Out-Patient Department, liaison with the Accident & Emergency Department and other specialties. We encourage uptake of training opportunities and will support relevant courses for the candidate’s education and training needs.
Even though the posts will not be recognised for training the successful candidates will have the opportunity to attend teaching and participate in audit, quality improvement and research projects where possible similar to the Wales Deanery Trainees. The successful candidates will also have dedicated educational supervisor. These posts will participate on the medical on call rota and have similar responsibilities to the training grades. There is a study leave budget available and associated funding will be considered by the Medical Director Office and approved for educational opportunities.

Swansea also has excellent sporting facilities including the Wales National pool and liberty stadium home to the Ospreys and Swansea City football club.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- You must hold a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS, MBBS) degree or other equivalent medical qualification.
- You must have evidence of achievement of foundation competences in the three and a half years preceding the advertised post start date for the vacancy, via one of the following four methods: • Current employment in a UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO) affiliated foundation programme; or • Current employment in a GMC approved Specialty Training Programme holding either a National Training Number (NTN) or Deanery Reference Number (DRN); or • A Foundation Programme Certificate of Completion (FPCC) from a UK affiliated foundation programme; or • 12 months medical experience after full GMC registration (or equivalent post licensing experience), and a Certificate of Readiness to Enter Specialty Training (CREST).
- You must have 24 months (2 years) or less experience (whole time equivalent) in Paediatrics (not including Foundation modules) at the point of application. All experience in posts at any level in this specialty count, irrespective of the country the experience is gained.
