Job overview

We are a friendly, growing team with many diverse roles, skills and abilities. We currently provide support to 46 GP practices, 8 virtual wards and various care homes. There will be many opportunities to develop and expand the skills you will bring with you.

You will be an experienced pharmacy technician, with a relevant pharmaceutical qualification and registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). You will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and well organised.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside pharmacists and technicians supporting the wider clinical team (GP practices, Virtual Wards, Care Homes etc) in all aspects of prescribing and medicines safety. The purpose of this role is to lead improvements to maximise safe and best practices in prescribing and improve the quality of patient care.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Medicines Management Technician will be responsible for providing specialised technical and clinical assistance to the Head of Prescribing and Medicines Management, Pharmacists, General Practitioners, Community Pharmacists and other members of the Health Board with the aim of improving quality, safety and cost effectiveness of Prescribing and Medicines Management on behalf of the organisation.

They will also provide support to the Accountable Officer in witnessing the destruction of Controlled Drugs across all areas of the Health Board and its contractors.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent (i.e. NVQ Level III Pharmaceutical Services)
  • Registered with professional body - GPhC
Desirable criteria
  • Further management or clinical qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 3 years post qualification experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in community pharmacy/ Health Board/primary care role

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to utilise information technology including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and database packages effectively, e.g. MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
