Job overview

Swansea Bay University Health Board is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced  Senior Network Engineer to work within an ambitious ICT Operations team. The individual will need to have excellent technical background with an interest in innovative IT solutions that could be used within the Health care environment.

The role will provide daily support to the network and telecoms team who provides the health boards digital services.

Working under the guidance of the Network manager and Network Architect, you will work closely with the Network team who are responsible for the Network, Telephony, WiFi and Security services.

You will have opportunity to work with the best networking kit, from Core Edge / Data Centre / Security / Wi-Fi and Telephony.

You will be a lead contributor on our SDN and Datacenter projects, working closely with the Network Solutions Architect. 

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for ensuring the network remains at peak performance with this underpinning  all Digital healthcare applications. Ensuring systems are up to date in order to protect against Cyber threats.

Deputise  for the Network Manager / Network Architect as and when required.

Work with the Health Boards departments to encourage the use of digital technology and help identify deliverable benefits.

As a good communicator, the individual will need to be able to deal with staff at all levels, in addition to communicating with staff within the Health Board, the individual must have good skills in explaining requirements to suppliers in technical meetings and project meetings.

Troubleshoot complex network and telephony issues.
 Contribute to the production of business cases, ensuring that these cases utilise appropriate technology available.

 Ensure technical solutions comply with departmental policies and agreed standards.

 Provide technical documentation when required and as part of all project implementations.

The successful candidate will be a highly experienced Network  engineer with a keen interest to learn and further develop in,  Core Edge / Data Centre / Security / Wi-Fi and Telephony based systems.

There will be opportunity for Home working, with mandatory days at the office and the need to attend site as and when required. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree or Equivalent Experience
  • CCNP or Equivalent Experience
  • ITIL Foundation or Equivalent Experience
Desirable criteria
  • CCNP (non switching or Routing certification)
  • Membership of a professional Body

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • installing and maintaining Cisco Switches
  • installing and maintaining Cisco Routers to include Cores
  • Installing and maintaining Cisco Wireless Systems
  • Installing and maintaining Cisco Security systems ISE, FIREPOWER
  • Installing and maintaining Cisco Telephony to include CUBE
Desirable criteria
  • IT Systems within a healthcare Environment
  • 2 Years Mentoring within an IT environment

Experience

Essential criteria
  • In Depth knowledge and experience in configuring monitoring, warning and security systems, Solarwinds, DNA, PRIME, ISE, Stealthwatch, Firepower
  • Cisco IP CUCM and associated technologies (CUCM,UCCX, Unity, VG's, Cube, ESXI)
  • troubleshooting connectivity issues and experience in tuning networks for VOIP, VC, cabling, devices, switches and firewalls
  • Track record of designing and implementing networks wired, wireless, local and wide area and within budget, on time during projects needs
  • 2 years experience supporting large Cisco installations (1000 users+)
Desirable criteria
  • Hands on experience of Microsoft Windows Servers and IP Networking
  • Hands on experience in administering internet facing DMZ
  • Hands on experience with Cisco Cube and SIP trunks

Essential criteria
  • Excellent problem solving Skills, with the ability to think logically and clearly, elicit information from users and provide remote support, advise and train staff, explaining complex technical information in a clear manner
  • Good report and documentation skills, able to present technical issues and proposals to the senior management team
  • Be a good team working, be able to work alone, must be pro-active and self motivated in learning new technologies
  • work with change management, adapt to change and new technologies
  • Work on own initiative, manage time and priorities effectively, develop and maintain effective team working,
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with 3rd party suppliers, ability to travel between sites in a timely manner

  • understanding of ICT and it's application to healthcare
