Job overview

To work with the Director of Nursing, Divisional Director of Operations, and Medical Director to meet the division’s key performance targets, leading effective and efficient delivery operational and clinical services with particular emphasis on effective clinical care, as well as implementing the strategic, financial and operational plans and efficiently deploying the resources of the Directorate.

The post holder will be the lead professional for nurses and nursing teams with Medicine  and be an advocate for patients, families and carers in the achievement of clinical excellence.  Locally, the post holder will lead on optimising and strengthening the role and responsibility of nurses within the service, ensuring nursing workforce resilience and succession planning.

The Associate  Director of Nursing will support the Divisional Director of Nursing at a strategic and operational level and work together to cover the Inpatient/Outpatient Medicine with a strong focus on planned care element in medicine.  You will provide visible professional nursing supporting our team of Clinical Nurse Specialists and Advanced Practitioners and  support teams to achieve the implementation of the Trusts vision and key priorities.

  • The post holder will lead and support specific portfolios/projects to ensure quality of care, excellent patient experience whilst maintaining financial sustainability and management. They will contribute to and ensure delivery of strategic and operational objectives set by the Trust and Divisional Board.
  • The post holder will support the Divisional Director of Nursing in the development of the strategic direction for the Division, working with the Divisional Senior team to support, influence and guide the development and delivery of excellent nursing care.
  • The post holder will provide clinical leadership which inspires, motivates and empowers nurses within the Division. In conjunction with the DDN the post holder will ensure that there is optimal deployment of nursing and midwifery staff to ensure that high quality patient care is delivered and monitored.
  • The post holder will lead delegated work streams and working in partnership with the Directorate Nursing teams to ensure compliance with the Trust’s strategic direction and the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professional strategy and direction.
  • The post holder will support the Divisional Director of Nursing in Trust wide developments and support of service transformation to meet the changing needs of staff, patients and relevant stakeholders. and guide the development and delivery of excellent nursing care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse / Midwife.
  • Evidence of significant professional and managerial development
  • 1st level degree or equivalent
  • Recognised teaching and assessing certificate.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience and achievement in a senior clinical nursing role.
  • Evidence of delivering complex change involving wide engagement
  • Demonstrable experience of people management including experience of chairing capability / disciplinary hearings.
  • Experience of holding staff to account for poor performance, and previous experience of being accountable for the delivery of clinical / nursing services.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate expert clinical and nursing knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively manage resources to deliver sustained improvement
  • Significant budgetary experience and demonstrable experience of achieving financial savings without compromising clinical care.
