Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinician with an interest in education to develop as a clinical educator within FHFT simulation services. This post is aimed at those who wish to build on their personal teaching experience to develop expertise in educational theory and practice. As a general requirement, the post holder will need to work flexibly across our hospital sites Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours with daily hours to meet service delivery needs

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within the simulation service across both Wexham and Frimley hospital sites, delivering a mixture of simulations.  Foundation Doctor simulation, being a major part for 6 months a year, alongside supporting, advising, standardising, and streamlining other simulation activities, A big dive is for multi-professional simulation as well as cross-departmental activity.  The role will look at debriefing models and physiological safety aspects to ensure a robust process is across all activities. The role will also be involved in expanding the service as well as commercial activity.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To lead the running and implementation of simulation courses, planning this in collaboration with the Simulation Lead, the Sim Centre Managers, clinical fellows, and the operational education leads.  

Administer, oversee, support, and facilitate simulation sessions to a high standard  

Promote communication to ensure efficient and effective running and use of the clinical simulation services and equipment and attend relevant meetings as and when required 

Work with a variety of healthcare disciplines to promote multi-disciplinary working and education.

Work with the Simulation centre mangers to utilise space for clinical teaching.  

Ensure that Trust policies are adhered to i.e. Manual Handling, Safeguarding Children, Infection Control etc.  

To contribute to teaching of programmes not specifically related to simulation, as and when necessary and appropriate 

Working closely with the Education administration team in managing the Simulation Centre  

Development and delivery of clinical scenarios for teaching. 

Liaise with Clinical Skills Co-ordinators, as and when necessary to ensure consistency in support provided in programmes.  

Ensure the economical use of resources for all educational sessions and manage resources effectively to maximise usage.  

Ensure that equipment is used in line with Health and Safety standards and stored in accordance with departmental security requirements.  

The postholder will be required to familiarise themselves with any new equipment procured and ensure all relevant staff are appropriately trained.  

Provide technical support during educational activities, adjusting technical requirements as required by the faculty.  

Facilitate and attend faculty briefing meetings prior to simulation sessions, including minute-taking  

Design, co-ordinate and manage interprofessional simulation scenarios 

Lead on simulation scenario debriefings and establish a standardised approach 

Attend and engage with FHFT MDT Simulation forum

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Clinician (HCPC or NMC)
  • Evidence of Level 6 (degree level education)
  • Recognised teaching/assessing course
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Simulation debriefing training
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of course in Mentorship
  • Master's Qualification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience gained in the NHS workplace through training and development.
  • Experience in a wide range of clinical skills relevant to trainees and the MDT.
  • Experience in maintaining and using a wide range of simulation equipment
  • Developed knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience in simulation application, delivery, and design
  • Experience with Audio Visual Equipment
  • Experience in simulation debriefing

Skills and Ability

Essential criteria
  • Able to provide advice concerning patient care in the context of simulation
  • Provide training to a wide variety of individuals from all areas of the MDT
  • Create complex simulations for learners to analyse and interpret
  • Keep abreast of best practice and NICE guidelines
