Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for booking outpatient appointments over the Trust sites for the Medicine Directorate. They will have an active role in booking of appointments for Respiratory, Cardiology, Cardiology Rehab, Dermatology, Stroke, Renal and Haematology.

The post holder will assist with meeting Trust targets. The post holder will be required to offer very high customer service skills for patients and both internal and external staff.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role will be:

  • Arranging appointments over the telephone with patients
  • Booking patient appointments from waiting lists
  • Rescheduling and cancelling appointments at short notice, when required
  • Rescheduling of appointments due to annual leave/other commitments 
  • Liaising with clinical admin

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE english & Maths or equivalent
  • ECDL or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 2 administration or equivalent practical knowledge
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of current NHS issues relating to the Referral To Treatment targets waiting lists and the Trust Access Policy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • experience of working in a hospital or busy office environment
  • Significant experience in difficult patient situations.
  • Some customer care experience
Desirable criteria
  • NHS experience
  • Call centre experience
  • Previous bookings experience
  • Use of EPIC or other electronic healthcare system
