Frimley Health is a leading innovative NHS Foundation Trust serving a population of over 900,000 people with a catchment area across six counties. The Trust has three main sites with Frimley Park Hospital, Wexham Park Hospital in Slough and Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot.
We opened our brand-new state of the art Emergency Department at Wexham Park Hospital in April 2019 creating single room facilities for the patients and expansion in all areas of ED. There is an 8-bed Resuscitation Room, 40-Bed Majors area with integrated radiology facilities including CT scanner and ultrasound facilities dedicated to the diagnostic imaging of emergency patients. We see over 125,000 patients per annum, 25% of whom are managed in our integrated Paediatric ED. A Trust-wide fully integrated EPR, Epic launched in June 2022.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work across all areas of the Emergency Department and will support the main ED Consultant rota including evening, weekend and on-call working. The job plan will be agreed after successful appointment with up to 50% of clinical time being dedicated for shifts in the paediatric ED.
You will join a team of 16 WTE consultants including two with subspecialty PEM training, one dual trained in ICM, one with PHEM subspecialty training, the regional EM HST Training Programme Director and Regional EM Head of School.
We also have dedicated clinical sessions from paediatric consultants and GPs in the ED and have good links with all specialities in the hospital. Opportunities for cross-site working can be discussed on an individual basis with the Chief of Service. Any consultant who is unable to work full time for personal reasons will be considered to work part time. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on an individual basis in consultation with the Chief of Service.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- FRCEM or equivalent
- On (or within 6 months of entry to) the UK specialist register for Emergency Medicine (via CCT or CESR)
- ALS/ ATLS/ APLS (or equivalent) provider status
- Management – understanding the structures of NHS hospitals and willing to play a role in the Department and in the Hospital
Desirable criteria
- ALS/ATLS/APLS Instructor status
Experiance
Essential criteria
- A wide grounding during training of all aspects of Emergency medicine
- Previous experience in participating in under-graduate and post-graduate teaching
- Understand principles of and participated in audit and quality improvement activity
- Understand the principles of Clinical Governance and demonstrate experience of evidence-based practice
Desirable criteria
- To have completed a Training the Trainers course or equivalent
- To have taken part in a management course
- Advanced airway skills
Skills/Mental Abilities
Essential criteria
- Able to evaluate own clinical practice
- Able to demonstrate innovative thinking
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to organise and develop service provision
