We have an opportunity for a qualified Occupational Therapist with excellent communication skills who enjoys working with people and is looking for an exciting, rewarding role assisting with the delivery of high standards of patient care. We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to join our in-patient therapy team, here at Haslemere Community Hospital in Surrey. We provide rehabilitation to a caseload of patients with frailty and/or chronic long term health conditions.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will contribute to the delivery of high standards of healthcare to patients on the wards at Haslemere Community Hospital. There will be opportunities to work with patients referred to occupational therapy providing rehabilitation to promote functional independence and well-being and to assist in the management of complex discharges from hospital to home or other settings.
With support from the Occupational Therapy team leader, the post holder will assist with the on-going development of clinical practice, standards of care and service development within the therapy team.
This is a role for the in-patient Occupational Therapy service on the wards at Haslemere Community hospital - contributing to the planning and provision of the Occupational Therapy service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be part of the inpatient Occupational Therapy service, meeting the needs of a complex with frailty presentation population. Our objective is to maximise the functional ability of people for the facilitation of safe discharges home or to suitable alternative environments.
We are looking for someone who likes working with people, has great listening and communication skills and preferably has previous experience working within the NHS or social care sector. You will assist the multi-disciplinary team by contributing to the planning, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy Service. The post holder will incorporate national guidance, research and evidenced based practice into their assessments and interventions. You will assist in the assessment and treatment of patients with a variety of physical and/or cognitive impairments, carrying out treatment plans and interventions and issuing daily living equipment and demonstrating its use. The Band 5 Occupational Therapist will help to manage and supervise the occupational therapy support staff.
We work together towards achieving a high quality and effective in-patient therapy service and are looking for a proactive and patient centred new member for our team. We value the importance of continuous improvement culture across our teams to provide high quality care to our service users.
Currently the team operate a five-day service, but in accordance with other services, seven-day working is a possibility in the future.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Diploma/degree in OT by recognised awarding body e.g. Royal College of Occupational therapists.
- Must satisfy the criteria for full membership of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Desirable criteria
- An approved Occupational Therapy supervisor for OT degree students
- Further qualifications/Study
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy for people with a wide range of physical dysfunction.
- Able to assess for and fit basic equipment to facilitate safe discharge
- Previous experience relating to specialist area
- Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
- Knowledge of relevant NHS and SS legislation
Desirable criteria
- Able to assess for and fit complex equipment and teach patient/carer in the safe use of these
- Experience with community/mental health conditions
