An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Royal Surrey Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford for a Locum Cardiology Consultant. We are currently offering a flexible 8.7 PA role, with potential to increase PAs in future. We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic and self-motivated Locum Consultant who will work as a key member of the Cardiology team, working collaboratively with members of the Acute Medicine, Oncology and Intensive Care departments, as well as the other medical specialties such as elderly care where we see an increasing need for aortic intervention.
The successful applicant will support the inpatient, outpatient and cardiac catheter lab service, as well as contributing to the overall strategic development of the cardiology service. The post holder will contribute to outpatient clinics, the consultant of the week ward rota and provide specialist care to the urgent and emergency care pathway. There will be dedicated Cath Lab sessions for pacing, angiography and box changes. The post holder will join an existing team of 7 consultants and 2 Associate Specialist, 2 SpR’s, 1 Specialty Doctor, 3 SHO’s and 2 FY1’s.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have a commitment to inpatient general cardiology at RSH to facilitate the care and management of acute hospital admissions on a dedicated cardiology ward (Merrow, 24 beds). In addition to these beds on Merrow ward, the post holder will oversee the 6-bedded co-located CCU during their participation in the consultant of the week rota. The model of inpatient care following the appointment of this post will be 1 in 7 weeks on the ward as consultant of the week. During this week, all other clinical activity is cancelled to facilitate full presence on the ward, including in-reach support to other areas, and medical patients on Merrow ward.
