We are delighted to be recruiting a either in the third year of a formally taught Clinical/Counselling Psychology Doctorate (Band 6), or already qualified and registered/eligible to register as a Band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and innovative candidate  with experience of, and a keen interest in mental health. To join Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust (SABP) and work within Community Mental Health Recovery Service (CMHRS).

We welcome applicants who are either in the third year of a formally taught Clinical/Counselling Psychology Doctorate, newly qualified or qualified with post-qualification experience. Any job offer will be dependent on meeting the person spec and/or HCPC registration. Any candidates who are within 12 months of attaining HCPC registration are encouraged to apply as well.

We are keen to recruit clinicians who wish to develop a well-rounded set of clinical skills but are also supportive in nurturing people’s special interests. 

The candidate must have a full and valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes due to the community element of this role and the large geographical area that this post covers.

The post covers the Guildford area and is based at The Redwood Centre on Farnham Road Hospital site. This post compliments the Psychologists in the team and will be a full member of the Multi-disciplinary Team .

Main duties of the job

Working in this field offers a wealth of opportunities for Trainee and Applied Psychologists to utilise a diverse range of professional skills, which includes completing comprehensive assessments and formulations, therapy interventions, consultation and training to non-psychology colleagues, and contribution to service development initiatives.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • To actively involve people in developing and agreeing their own care plan, to act as an advocate and ensure that there is proper regard for their dignity, choice, self-esteem, racial, cultural, sexual and religious needs and preferences.
  • To undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk management plans.
  • To practice within a Positive Behaviour Support and trauma informed care framework.

The post holder will be professionally supervised by an experienced HCPC Applied Senior Psychologist and will be well supported within the psychology departments, where Continuing Professional Development and staff support are highly valued.

There will also be opportunities for you to meet regularly with other Trainee and qualified Psychologists across the Trust for CPD events and service development/transformation projects.

Essential criteria
  • B6: final year of Clinical/Counselling Doctoral training
  • B7: HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate skills training across a range of psychological models, for example systemic, cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic.

  • Band 6 Experience of paid or voluntary work in a clinical, community or clinical-academic setting exposing the person to client groups and service settings directly relevant to the application of psychology in a clinical setting.
  • Band 7 • Experience of working with people from across the life span with a range of mental health issues and cognitive profiles. • Experience of the practical application of a range of psychological models including systemic, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic.
